Default EGT's and Swain Tech (or other internal combusthin chamber coatings)

I'm a little concerned about mu EGT's lately, and am beginning to wonder if they might be a little higher than I'd expected/wanted due to the fact that I had the intake ports, combustion chamber, exhaust ports and pistons coated with the Swain Tech TBC (thermal barrier coating).

I'm running a T3/T4 60-1, inline-pro manifold tapped for the EGT sender in #3, Hondata/850 cc injectors ... and at times while cruising under light load I see the EGT temp steadily rise through the 800C mark and even a bit above (~840-850).

I'm thinking I need a bit more tuning to take care of the situation, but was wondering if the coatings might also be leading to the higher EGTs, and that therefore maybe it wasn't as much of a problem as I'd thought.

Any insight, suggestions or explanation would be greatly appreciated. Ed

No informative opinions, eh?

Oh well, looks like I'll just see about getting the temos lowered with more fuel and tuning, turn back/up the timing a bit.

generally thermal coatings such as swain or hpc prevent detenation...or make that part a lil more tolerable of detonation. does it raise egts? i couldnt say. i dont think its anything to worry about, fix the problem w/ ur tune tho

I can't see coatings having THAT much of an effect on EGTs. I could be wrong, but most people see ~750C under full boost. That's what I used to see at least at 1 bar. EGT's were rock solid around 750. I'd say under 800 should be ok though.

Btw, I'd be a little hesitant to throw more timing in off the bat unless it's -severely- retarded. I've seen high egt's because of too much timing as well. Just a thought...
Pulling .5 degree/lb at higher boost(~1bar) on pump gas w/ a/f's in the high 11's is a pretty safe tune.

i would assume that higher egt's would be too much ignition retard, or it could be the tech coatings.

If they are doing their job, then the internals are not absorbing the heat energy, yes?

If AFR's are right, and ignition timing is good and EGT's are still a little on the high side, i would blame the coatings!

(ok maybe not blame. hehe)

Thanks for the responses guys, I'll be getting a fresh tune on it as soon as my guy has some free time.

In the mean time I'm for for a weekend road trip in the car.
