Default Please help me with my Axels (many pictures) plus a pic of my new exhaust!

Hello, here is my problem...

I have a 1992 Civic Si. I am putting a 99 JDM ITR 5 lug conversion on it. I have a D series motor.

I am in the process now where I am taking apart the outer 32mm CV joints on my stock D series axels and putting on the outer 36mm CV joints from my JDM ITR axels.

My question now is how do you get the outer CV joints off of both axels (the USDM stock D series axel, and the JDM ITR axels).

How do you put the outer CV joint from the ITR axel on my stock D series axel?

Here are some pictures to clarify what I am asking:

How do I take that outer CV joint off of that axel?

How do I take this ITR outer CV joint off of its axel? We got it kind of jiggly but it will not come the axel, I'm guessing there is a snap ring in there but I have no idea how to get to it or bash it out.

After the ITR outer CV joint (pictured 2 pictures up) is removed how do I put it on this axel?

And here is my new exhaust :

Actually its my dad's, its a Tubi Style exhaust to go on his M5, its should sound very mean when its done (its a full catback).

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,
Jake

You need to thwack that INNER metal ring with a hammer. You have to hit it pretty hard sometimes, but it will some off. There is a snap ring on the end of the axle, after the splines, and the outer end just goes over it.

Don't hit the bigger ring that moves around, they like to blow up and send metal shards shooting into your face, and if your girlfriend is watching you'll probably have to pay for her plastic surgery to remove the metal chunks.

Wheee. Axles suck.

Awesome thank you. Thats what I was thinking. We started hitting the inner ring with a mallet and we were getting some giggle indicating it was loose, however, it wouldn't come off. Is the snap ring reusable? Once the outer ITR CV joints are removed how do I press them on my Civic axels?

It sounds like you've done that before... Scary. Stay away from me my axles are fine.

wow, talk about a project. I dont' know if i'd take that on really simply because of the risk that if you mess up the axle in some way, you both sets. Do you have a helms manual that could help you out?

Yes I do, they make absolutely no reference to the removal/replacement of the outer CV jounts.

Perhaps there is a transmission place in your area that could rebuild the axles to your specs (hybrid axle). Hell they might even just show you how to do it if they're in a good mood. I've never done it, but I assume if you don't bugger up the snap ring too bad you could re-use it. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try that.
