Please help me w/ my Axels (many pix), Plus my new exhaust set-up ;)
Hello, here is my problem...
I have a 1992 Civic Si. I am putting a 99 JDM ITR 5 lug conversion on it. I have a D series motor.
I am in the process now where I am taking apart the outer 32mm CV joints on my stock D series axels and putting on the outer 36mm CV joints from my JDM ITR axels.
My question now is how do you get the outer CV joints off of both axels (the USDM stock D series axel, and the JDM ITR axels).
How do you put the outer CV joint from the ITR axel on my stock D series axel?
Here are some pictures to clarify what I am asking:
How do I take that outer CV joint off of that axel?
How do I take this ITR outer CV joint off of its axel? We got it kind of jiggly but it will not come the axel, I'm guessing there is a snap ring in there but I have no idea how to get to it or bash it out.
After the ITR outer CV joint (pictured 2 pictures up) is removed how do I put it on this axel?
And here is my new exhaust :
Actually its my dad's, its a Tubi Style exhaust to go on his M5, its should sound very mean when its done (its a full catback).
Any help is appreciated
Thanks,
Jake

You'll need to use the JDM ITR bearings and everything involved in the CV internals. Install the boot and put it on, then clamp it.

Re: Please help me w/ my Axels (poison)
I know I have to reuse the complete outer ITR CV jounts. I am not trying to dismantle them. I need to know how to remove them from the ITR axel and how to get them on my USDM axel. I'll try to post M5 pix up later.

Outboard joints don't come off. At least in the Helms, it doesn't.
Tell you what, click on the Raxles link in my sig, get the number and call them, ask for Mardi, and ask him how to get it off. If it comes off he'll know how.

They have to. There is a popring inside the CV joint. If they don't come off then how come in this picture the outer CV joint from my Civic axel is off?
I got it off by pulling the steering knuckle out while the axel slpine was still in the hub. Came off by accident.

There should be some clamps on there inside that you take off and it'll slide off the axle shaft. My brain is trippin and can't think of the tool to use to remove the clamp, but it's a goofy lookin one.

I didn't see any clamps. But on the one picture of the axel on my car with the outer CV removed you can kind of see there is a slot running all the way around the spline where it looks like a pop ring fits in, however, there is absolutely no access too it.
Someone recommended to me that the only way to remove the outer CV is to hit the inside ring with a mallet.

No access to it as in the boot is in the way or what?

This topic is not about his dad's car nor the Mugen wheels. Ninety2SiR is posting for help, not "who wants to see my dad's car?".
Thank you.

Thank you for trying to keep this thread on track Brandon. It is my fault though, I shouldn't have brought up my dad's car.
Here is what I am talking about as to the inacessible set ring:
The arrow is pointing to a grove in the spline where the set ring sits. You can just barely make it out, but it is just a grove separating the last 1/16" of the outer most spline from the rest of the slpine. That set ring is what holds the outer CV onto the axel. When the outer CV is on the axel it is impossible to get to that ring, and it is different from unpopping the ring tranny side in that I have nothing to pry against (tranny case and CV joint).
The only thing I can think of is hitting the inner ring of the CV joint with a mallet and hoping that unpops it.
Any input is appreciated.
-Jake

Re: (Ninety2SiR)
Not a solution to your immediate problem, but I think raxles can make custom axles, from almost any tranny to almost any hub. You may give them a ring.

It shouldn't.
Hey man, anyway you can get a closer pic of that shaft? Get a close up!
