downshifting....
ok i just got a clutchmasters 7.5 lightweight aluminum flywheel for my b18c1 swap. now my buddy says that its unsafe to downshift when im @ high RPMs. is there any truth to what he says?
An aftermarket clutch won't make any difference in how "safe" (I'm assuming he was referring to the risk of overrevving the motor) it is to downshift at a certain RPM. However, if you're not revmatching, an aftermarket clutch will make the lurch you feel much more dramatic. I just can't think of a reason why an aftermarket clutch would make downshifting less "safe."
EDIT: DOH, I just read "flywheel," not "clutch." This might make things different (I'm really grasping here)...if the flywheel is known to be fragile, I suppose its possible that the aforementioned "shock" to the drivetrain could cause the thing to grenade. I've certainly heard of people grenading aluminum flywheels...hence the need for a "Scatter Shield" or some such thing.
