What is speedshifting? How do u do it?
I hear people talking about it but i don't know what it is please don't flame i'm new to the manual driving i won't speedshift until i get use to driving standard
shifting without lifting off the throttle. very easy to do. feels cool when you do it, but makes JACK SHlT of a difference if you cna shift reasonably fast the normal way (thats just my experience).

I had thought there was a slight diff:
speedshifting: Shifting very quickly and just letting off of the gas for a split second while shifting.
powershifting: Keeping the gas floored or applied while shifting.
The later will obviously put more wear on the drivetrain, and is probably of questionable benefit.
If you are making good power, powershifting will probably make you spin or "chirp" the tires when you shift, which may (does?) actually cost you time. Can someone confirm this? Supposedly, a scratch or chirp on a shift could hurt your ET by .1 seconds or so?
Also, are those definitions accurate? I posted that on Audiworld once, and someone corrected me but now I can't find the thread, heh.
Take care,

my car chirped going into second out of the dealership, but those were the stock tires that were made out of poopoo, well I think it was gilded poopoo, I checked out the tire price
I power shifted once in my car... kept the throttle on the floor the whole time and shifted as fast as I could with the clutch... didn't have a problem... but boy if you miss a shift and are squeezing nitrous or running a turbo and the fuel stops cause you just couldn't lift off the throttle for a second to shift...your gonna kick yourself after you blow something up....

what is the best way way to shift if i do decide to race
just make sure you do it fast and correctly without grinding any gears
practice is the only thing that will let you shift really fast
have fun
well its like this you will be able to speedshift which is basically being able to at the flick of the wrist learn your gates(gears)
when your at the peak of fuel cutoff leave your foot on the gas, quickly jab your clutch pedal and slam it into second at the slap of a wrist (you may **** up and make a 2nd gear grinder) and the same with each gear.
that is powershifting
consequences of powershifting, the day you blow your clutch, your transmission will never work the same...
I blew my clutch about 3 weeks ago and now I got a clutchmasters stage 3 in there but when the clutch blew it damaged my gear input shaft (the long thingamajig that hooks to your shift linkage that runs through your syncros to select gears) because instead of being able to get into gear like your car was at a stand still how it just goes one, two , three... any time those gears are moving its 1 stutter, 2 stutter, 3, stutter...
now I need to replace my transmission, and used itr trannys go for about 1200 if your lucky, or cheaper if you buy stolen... *note* I dont buy stolen ****.
cept for that pioneer deck in my car but that was from my old job the pioneer warehouse distribution center... hehehe

One more thing. It doesn't take much effort to change gears. Don't grab the shifter with your whole hand and jerk or jam it into gear. That'll screw up your tranny. The easiest thing to do is while you're still learning (that way, you won't have to correct yourself later), make shifts using your thumb, pointy finger, and middle finger. put your thumb on the back of the shift **** and the other two in front, that's all it takes. It sounds crazy but once you get the hang of it, you can make very fast shifts without banging the shifter into gear.
my advice:
momo super anatomic shift **** - i love mine
do not attempt to shift at the track without using the clutch no matter who tells you this...
save up for a hondata stage III ECU which has full throttle shifting:

"When the car is moving and your foot is on the clutch, the rev limit is dropped about 2000 rpm. A typical clutch activated RPM limit might be 6100 rpm which corresponds to the average amount the rpm drop on an 8200 RPM gearshift. Great for improving those 1/4 mile times.
For bracket racing tests have shown that ET repeatability to less than 1/10th of a second is achievable."

i just learned how to speedshift recently, and i like it better than normal shifting even tho i can chirp out w/out speedshifting. just make sure u dont hesitate, full throttle it, then literally kick the clutch and pop it into second...it should be like da blink of an eye..if it takes longer..then theres basically no use in speedshifting. but once u get it down u will like it......
Just wanted to add my 2 cents.
My buddy was taught this from a race instructor when he tracked his CRX...You shift as fast as you like, but treat the shift **** as if it were a raw egg. Treat the clutch pedal similarly.
Shift swiftly, but gently. I manage to scratch 3rd gear with heavy 16" Yok A520's. I need to work on being more gentle in my 1-2 shift as the traction loss is slowing me down.
Swiftly but gently. <--- not a mantra to follow in bed though.

if you don't like to read, skip to the bottom footnote.
you do not need to speed shift unless you have a turbo. when i had my s/c'er, i never needed to speed shift and the same goes for all motor. i only do it with my turbo when racing to stay in full boost through all the gears. in a turbo car, when you shift from say...second to third, you boost drops and then has to build again once your in the next gear. it only takes a fraction of a second but it does make a difference on a turbo car.
footnote.....if your not a serious racer with a turbo, don't speed shift!
