Default suggestions for DRAG 3 power on LS!

im plannin on entering the Summit NIRA battle in 2-3 weeks. i only got a basic DRAG 3 setup boosting 5lbs. my exhaust is 2.5 from downpipe all the way back with a Tanabe straight design muffler. the thing is... i still got my cat on! haha i dunno if i should toss it and get a straight pipe.. or get a high flow.. i dunno...

i need suggestions on tuning.. so that i can get the most power out of my setup. i would appreciate any suggestions on any area. such as gettin a flexpipe... gettin 310s and lowering the fmu ratio to 8:1... and so on. just whutever suggestions u have and proven power.

im not askin whut standalone unit i should get... or whut pistons and rings i should use.. im askin for basic tuning advice on making my DRAG 3 setup at full potential even at 5-7 lbs of boost. thanks guys...

on a LS with 370cc injectors u can boost up to 9lbs pretty safely, but your best bet is to go standalone and large injectors...

Ditch the cat! Easy HP gain. Then tune it.

quikrpm1...

my car had quicker days... but its still running ok. considering i boost the shiet out of it daily driving. haha but yah.. thanks for asking.

turbointegra...

i heard str8 pipes crack... im thinkin about gettin a flex pipe made in place of the cat. the only thing... my exhaust is already loud... im worried the str8 pipe will make it even louder.

does anyone recommend getting 310 injectors and lowering the ratio to 8:1? do i get more HP with that type of combo as compared to the 12:1 ratio and stock injectors? i wanna increase my mid-high end power... i heard power is sacrificed at high end boost cause its running to rich with that setup.

any other suggestions? what mods have you done that gave you a noticable difference in power? MSD ignition upgrade? what plugs? gap?

I may sound like a psycho-greenie here, but don't get rid of the cat. It's not worth the 3 horsepower (if you're lucky). Plus, if your car's daily driven, you'll have a hard time passing inspection with a straight pipe. Spend a few bucks and get a high flow cat - I've read reviews which basically concluded that with a good stock cat you'll lose maybe one or two horsepower - at the most. If it's an older cat, you may be losing more than that, so an upgrade to a nice aftermarket one may make a difference.

The world will thank you, yadda, yadda, all that crap.

yah i wonder how much of a difference in HP you get when you take off the cat. hmmm... maybe bashing out the stock cat might help? haha

i guess no one really has any experience with "upgrading" the DRAG 3 kit to its fullest potential bychangin out some things?

Actually, on a turbo setup... removing the cat can net a very significant performance boost. Not only will the turbo spool faster, but the reduction in backpressure (since the turbo itself creates backpressure already) can significantly add HP.

On a FI setup at say 7psi with a decent exhaust, I would guess that removing the cat could get you a good 10-15hp at least.

the cat must go!

i do have a little confusion on the fuel though... if i run 310s and a 8:1 fmu ratio... why is it better, if it is, than to run the stock injectors and the 12:1? which would be richer? how much difference in power would i get?

picked up some SKUNK 2 cam gears... recommended tuning item and improves performance... hmm any other suggestions guys?

i always wondered if gettin MSD would improve power noticably. what do you think?

and also, about the 310 injectors and the 8:1 fmu setup.
