Welding wg to exh. housing...
ok... still putting my car together... i was looking at a turbo yesterday with wg welded too it... i like the whole theory an i think its the best way to go...

I think if you enlarge the internal wastegate port and have the external wastegate pipe welded to the downpipe flange, it should do the job, more efficiently than having the wastegate welded to one cylinder's exhaust pipe on the manifold. It all depends on your arrangement, if you have enough space. It is easier to have the wastegate piping welded to the merge right before the turbo, though...... Try porting cast iron.......
Hmm, that's interesting. You know I've never had a wastegate work as well as my old Internal wastegate, that thing was rock solid. I always wanted to try porting out that hole and making a custom flapper that was larger. probably more trouble then it's worth though.
I think the DSM guys with the big turbos do it all the time. At least thats what I've read. It would make sense though that it'll work better. You will bleeding more pressure before the turbine because of the shape inside than on all four primaries combined. As long as the hole is the same size as the WG piping, it should hold boost perfectly, thats what its there for. At least in my opinion, it is better, I may be wrong........
i think it would actually be the perfect location... the air is flowing into the turbo and then then basically splits off into two directions... one of them bleeding off the boost
