How do i convert an internal wastegate turbo to external wastegate?
i just purchased this turbo on ebay and it is internal wastegate. i got it because it was a really good deal. thing is, i have a tial wastegate and manifold for an external wastegate already. so, how do i convert this turbo to work with an external wastegate? what has to be done and will it be safe?

You can buy a downpipe flange that will block off the internal wastegate port. Make sure the flange is flat, and dont warp it when welding it. You want a good seal.

yeah but you should also just unbolt the old wastegate from it, as stated above, a new flange for external will cover up the wastegate actuator flapper thingy and wont let it open, i also suggest a nice little tack weld on the flapper to ensure no leaks

t3 super 60 .48 a/r
so i just have to get that hole on the outlet side welded shut? will that be safe?
this is the 5-bolt downpipe i already have for an external wastegate. so if i have this, i should be fine then? all i have to do is get that hole welded shut, right?

the 5 bolt flange that you have on your downpipe will cover the hole....you dont need to have anything welded. so you should be good to go

what about the hole next to the turbonetics writing? isnt that where the flapper goes? that is what i was referring to as having to weld shut.

Your 5 bolt flange will cover the internal WG hole...no need for welding. The hole I think you're talking about is the one on the compressor housing [shiny aluminum]...this hole is for a boost source for your WG actuator. You can feed your external gate boost from here, or you can buy a 1/8" NPT plug and plug the hole up. I would not recommend welding it up in case you need it later.

Re: (DaX)
or why dont you get a hole put in your dp flange right where the inernal wg hole is,weld a tube there and run your external wastegate from that hole.
im doing the same thing,i have an ssautochrome mani too and the internal wg hole on my turbo is the perfect size for a 35-38mm wastegate plus its a much better location than on the manifold
