i just finished my greddy turbo install and when i started it up everything seemed to be working fine. the manifold smokes quite a bit when it gets hot though. i wanted to know if thats normal with a new manifold or if the turbo isnt getting oil or something.

 

when i first installed myh manifold it smokes a little. i think its burning the oil on the manifold.

 

Im wondering the same thing...I ran my car about 45min-1hr total since the turbo install (No Boost) and i notice white smoke coming from the manifold area, it has a wierd shitty smell to it, im wondering if its stuff on the manifold burning off (it was painted with hi-temp header paint and has heat wrap on it) or if its somethign more serious...

 

its jus burning up the metal, its like a break in period.

Just like a header, when you first bolt it on, it will smell like ceramic thats burning up. After awhile it will go away. If its black smoke then I would start to worry

 

its problay just all the oils from your hands when putting it together, if its keeps smoking after a good hour or so, then its something esle...
plus if its new its problay been handled by like 30 people...

 

is there any way to check to make sure oil is flowing throuh the turbo without taking off the oil inlet or return pipes which are a bitch to get at? and also what is the break in period? i mean should i drive like my grandma for 200 miles or sumthin?

 

If you want to know if oil is flowing through your feed line, disconnect it and prime it. If it works, oil will shoot out. If you didnt have oil running through your lines, trust me you would know soon enough. As far as break in period, for a basic turbo kit there is no break in period whatsoever at all. These were words directly from a friend of mine who works at DRAG. And yes, the smoke is from burning paint, oil, oil on hands, and other foreign materials. This is normal.

If it's all brand new (paint, mani, heat wrap) then be prepared for it to stink and even smoke for at least 300 miles. Exhaust wrap alone will cause this. It really takes awhile for all the junk to burn out of it.

 

my manifold smoked for a good 3 hours(did not continously drive) after reinstalling my turbo kit. a lot of it was from the high temp paint and oil that was on it.

 

I have the same problem with my set up I had it checked and the smoke is coming from the manifold. The manifold is leeking. You will lose boost and feel like oil is not getting to the turbo. But mine is the manifold is leeking.
