compression numbers

Default hey guys

hey guys, my friend bought a 97 itr motor from jdm motorsports, has a 30 day warranty, we changed all fluids, pumps, belts, etc, today the car started smokeing, did a compression test, these are the numbers we got #1 - 196, #2 - 185, #3 - 176, #4 - 185......so my question is, what should the compression be? thanks in advance guys

typically speaking yes, but I would be more concerned if they were uneven, which yours appear to be.

Did you guys check the timing belt and cam timing to make sure all is good there?
Did you do the test with the car fully warm and at WOT with distributor disconnected and all spark plugs out? How many times did you crank each cylinder?

Also, you may need to put 10-20 miles on the motor to clean out all the crap, who knows how long it has been sitting. Def change the oil again after a few hundred miles.

yes, distributor was disconnected, all plugs out, 200 miles on motor, timing is fine, my friends dad is a honda mechanic and did the timing belt, and car was warm and tested at WOT i followed every instruction to do this, and those are the numbers.......

Did you do 6 cranks or 4?

Honda says to crank it 6 times.
