1998 Civic LX Black Smoke question
I've noticed that my 1998 Civic LX has a lot of black smoke coming out of it when I accelerate hard. I've been using an EBay cold air intake with a cheap filter, which I suspect has been clogging up my throttle body. I've been using a lot of carb/choke cleaner in it, I'm not sure if the black smoke is a result of this...I've been driving a lot since I used that stuff though, I think it would have burned out by now. I notice that when I am in 4th gear and doing about 4-5,000 RPMs that I hear a sizzling sound coming from my motor that sounds like a hamburger cooking on a grill (lol). Yeah, that's actually what it sounds like. Other than that, the car runs fine, just has a lot of black smoke. I haven't changed my oil in a while, but I thought that oil related problems were blue. The car has 90,000 miles on it. It runs relatively well, it has a slightly rough idle...but most civics i've seen on the road do. I recently did a tune-up on it, replacing the spark plugs, cap/rotor, timing belt, etc. What could be causing this black smoke? Any suggestions on what I could do to fix it?
