Default what;s the cheapest way...

what is the cheapest way to make my 2001 R ecu become obd1 ?
thinking of going skunk2 program but it requires obd1, so what is the cheapest way to do without actually buying a obd1 ecu

You need to buy a OBDI ecu no matter what.

Cheapest way is to get an OBD-I ECU and OBD-II to OBD-I conversion harness.

No, you still have to get a harness. Your car is OBD-II. The P28 (chipped or not) is an OBD-I ECU. The harness allows you to use the OBD-I ECU.

Unchipped, usually around $100. For chipped ECU's they go for around $200-$250. I believe many on the board have used Kenji for chipping and harness services.

And even if he gets a chip for the OBD1 ecu, the ecu will need to be socketed in order to take it. Or the the chip will need to be permantently soldered in (it's better to have a socket).

Talk to kenji.

He'll probably hook you up with a package deal for 400-430$ for a P28 ecu socketed and chipped w/ a conversion harness.

Don't forget to add another $300 to that cost, 'cuz you'll need to dyno tune your car with at least V-AFC to take a full advantage of chipped P28.

So, before you know it, you have spent ~$750 for OBDI ECU & V-AFC. For a little more, you can get PowerFC or Hondata.
