Default all those w/out BTM

alot of ppl in here run the AFC hack, i wanted to know wat you guys are doing for timing. Have you left it stock, have you retarded? Being that timing is so critical i am paranoid as hell to run the **** out of my car.

i will be putting my car on the dyno next friday and i wanna tune it to run 8lbs safley all day long. right now i got it retarded about 3 degrees at the dist.

i just hate looking through the board seeing the "blew my motor" threads and reading tham and ppl are like "i dont know how this happened, i had it tuned and everythying"

im so happy to finally be boosted but at the same time scared out my mind.

im running almost the same setup (custom kit) but fuel system and hack are all the same, i havent touched my timing yet but im interested to see what happens when i do, is it just a safety measure or will it make the car run smoother?

with my timing retarded at 3 degrees the car pulls really strong all the way through. it pulls better than when i had stock timing. i am also almost 5K ft above sea level so that plays a role on the performance of my car.

I'm running 13 degree base timing on my LS turbo - awesome and no knock issues... Better to play it safe than sorry

Sell the vafc and get an uberchip. This retards the timing for you.

Just run race gas and you dont need to retard your timming.

i would but doesnt he only chip OBD-1 non vtec ecu's?

that would mean i have to get the chip, another ecu, and a conversion harness. that cash just aint on me right now

UberTeg's Chips gets my vote!! you can run a 3bar map and use your afc to tune. i'm only a few days away from using my UberChip...due the fact that my motor has only 123 miles on my newly built motor. his chip...is truly...a poor man's hondata!!

General rule of thumb is this for every 1 pound of boost you have to retard the timing .2 of a degree this less then half a degree per pound. For example for 8 pounds of boost you would need to retard timing to 2 full degrees. 3 degrees is overkill but safe until you check everything on the dyno. Only use 91 + octane. or better on a race day you could probably go higher on the timing but I would not unless you have an avcr hack or hondata, fuel controller with lower compression. Hope this helps...

yea i think 2 degress retarded would be fine for u. 3 is def safe but i dont think its necessary. best to tune it on dyno anyway tho, so we'll see what happens when u get it done. good luck and have fun

u guys arent taking into accoutn the fact that the afc hack advances timing. If you want to correct it on your dizzy, u'll have to retard at LEAST 6 degrees.

You can't correct AFC timing with a BTM. You have to alter the ignition map in your ECU in order to have the correct timing. Or run a Uberchip. Whatever.
