I have a 93' Civic hatchback, been building a turbo kit for it the past few months. Anyways, I wanted to know what would be some stronger honda rods? I heard putting ZC's in and they're good for around 200 hp. I think my pistons will hold up, I don't want to raise the compression. I'll be running a RHB5 with a starion FMIC, 12:1 FMU and probaly a HF manifold. Also, if I were to replace the rods would I need to have the block hoaned and such again? Any information would be appreciated. I'm not up on engine building, just looking for ideas. Thanks,

do d16 rods fit onto a d15? are they the same length?? this would be useful information for me as well.

Oh yea, can the block hold 15 psi if you used forged rods and pistons? I've heard yes and no.

This is not going to sound easy...

I made a turbo kit for a friend to a 2-litre sohc Accord, and almost instantly the rods failed.

The I decided not to put this together with stock parts, but the customer didn't have enough funds to purchase any aftermarket rods.

So I took BMW M20 rods (rigid as hell) and Beetle 85.5mm Mahle forged pistons. I replaced the shitty mahle piston rings with some American aftermarket croMo rings and the weak wrist pin with BMW twice as heavy one.

With this package the deck of the pistons is left 1.4mm lower than with the stock parts.

Now there will be a few probs on the way;

-big end is 2.4mm narrower in BMW rod that it is in Stock rod.
-valve grooves need to be machined
-with wrist pin more in the other side of the piston leads to a need of VERY much more ignition advance.

Don't even try this if You can afford purpose-built rods and better forged pistons...

 

I can't seem to find rods for the D series? I'm not exactly sure of the size either. Also if I replaced rods and pistons will I have to have the block honed and such or can I just drop them in and go? Thanks,

Eagle and Crower both make rods for the d series

 

Do you know off hand the size? I don't belive they're the same size as the a6 but I could be wrong.
