sounds like you forgot to put the gasket in all together...or maybe you left a wrench on top of the block when you isntalled the head
J/K that's not normal, obviously. I never had any problems with mine. Did you use a NEW gasket?

brand new y8 headgasket from honda i re used the head bolts too b/c the arp bolts didnt fit
Just replace it again, something went wrong unless there is something wrong with the head or block.
Everybody whines about not re-using head bolts but there's no problem doing so. 90% of engine builders don't replace head bolts just for the heck of it.

btw i had the head resurfaced would that raise the compression? also it didnt leak around the outside of the block so is there anyway when i take the head off would i be able to tell where it was leaking from?

If your deck/sleeves are out of what this could happen but I doubt that's it. If I remember right, the Y7 and Y8 gaskets are the same. I think I used a Y8, but I do think they are the same. Look up the part numbers at autozone and check them.
would resurfacing my head raise the compression?
Hope this helps.
BTW, I've seen this before when resurfacing was done crappy.
Actaully, if you just resurfaced and didn't take out any serious amount of metal in the process, then it wouldn't raise the comp. Just wanted to put that in for those falmers out there...

the head was resurfaced by a machine shop. i hope i can find out what caused it when i take the head off or where it was leaking from i doubt it was from the head being resurfaced, i just wanna know what caused it to leak inside of the head and not around the outside of the block
Nope, you've been reading too much about the older SOHC motors. D16Y8 head bolts straight onto a D16Y7 block with no modifications other than wiring.
