what head gasket to use????
i have a d16 y7/y8 miny me swap and this is the 4rth time i have to replace the head gasket!!! why? ast time it was less than a year ago i have put a new oem gasket and bolts and follow the intall procedure exaclty had the head resurfaced about 2 years ago is there a stronger head gasket or why is it that its blowing?? thanks for the input

ok are you sayting you have a D15 block w/ a D16Y7/8 head? that's what I know of as a mini-me setup.
you should use the Y8 Gasket as it is a little better metal gasket then a Z6 gasket some use w/ a mini-me.
Are you reving the motor extremely high or anything?
Good luck and hope you find a cure/answer.

I used a y8 headgasket on my y7/y8. If you need a new set of honda oem y8 headbolts I have a set of 10 that I could sell to you. Pm me

i have a d16y7 block with a y8 head and i did used a d16y8 gasket everytime and it keeps blowing i have no Forced induction whatsoever and the motor is bone stock! any feed back will be great

i didn't know that everytime you change the gasket? is this correct? i did used new OEM bolts everytime i changed, does anybody disagree on this i need to do this realy soon thanks for the input

do i need to acctually take the block out of the car to get it resurfaced? that sounds a little too much of a mission to do. the block has 70k miles on, i wouldn't think thats necessary. what do you think?

I heard the d-series heads are prone to warping when removed from the block. You gotta make sure the motor is cold before you try removing it from the block. Try getting it milled.

yes your supposed to get the head milled everytime you change the headgasket, usually the block you dont do, unless it really needs it.. there is a test to see if its warped you basically take a straightedge and u put it on the block in a few different spots and you put a light on the other side and check if you can see light..
the way i always saw it was that as long as you have one perfect surface (the head) the gasket is made to take a litle imperfections left (on the block)

Any body from S FLA knows a good/honest machine shop to get this done? i know brads performance any body else?

Might want to check the block also, as it may need resurfacing. Are you cleaning both surfaces well before putting the new gasket on? And, if so, how are you cleaning it? That could be your problem right there.

If you don't get all the old gasket material off, it will cause weak spots in the seal of the new gasket. As long as you can see it's all off, degreaser should work ok. I used really fine grit sandpaper (1200+) to get all mine off. You can also use a scotchbrite pad - anything that's only VERY MILDLY abrasive. I just don't know if degreaser alone will get all of it off...
I was really just hoping you weren't going to say something like a grinder or sander. That would be bad, mmmmkkkk?
At this point though, I'd get the deck check on the block and the head. There's a section in Helms that shows you how to do that with a machinist's straight edge and a feeler guage.
Only shows the head, and it's for the 5th gen cars, but I'll be it will be very similar for your setup.

hey finaly got around to do the gasket so far its running fine i got a cometic HG and ARP studs (60 lbs ) trq if any body is intersted im have a spare y8 head recntly rebuild less than 30k miles on perfect shape with Vtec selenoid and cam gear make offer
