Default 4WS Problem/Questions

Well, the 4WS light came on. Actually, it's been on for a while now. I just got too lazy to fix it until I saw another post related to 4WS.

Can anyone give me some troubleshooting tips to check up on whats wrong with my 4WS? Is there a way to jump the 4WS ECU? Should I check any loose connections running on a certain place? Is there some kinda oil or fluid I need to get it working? Any help would be.. well, helpful! Thanks in advance.

you can pull a problem code for the 4WS the same way you do for the Check engine light. If you want to do that and you don't have a Helms let me know the code and I can tell you what it says. I would write it out but it is very long and just refers you to a certain chapter in the Helms.

Are you sure that your not getting any other codes than the 71? If your only throwing a code 71 your 4WS light should not be comming on at all. If you watch the 4WS light for a while does it just keep giving you the 7 long and 1 short flash? Watch it for about a minute to see if your getting anything else. Sometimes it can build up more than one instance of a code. For example it might throw a 71 3 times in a row then give you another code. I don't know why but the 4WS does this. Also if you keep watching the light you shoud have a pause for 1.6 secs then 3 seconds of rapid flashes. Then it will start throwing codes from the CPU's in the 4WS control unit. So I would check it again to make sure that you don't have any other codes.
