check engine light
how do u get the check engine lite on a 96 prelude to turn off? my friend has a 2001 teg LS and he has a button behind his wheel and above the pedals would it be there cuz i looked and i coodnt find it
You would need to jump your service connector to get the ecu to output the code via the check engine light. I would go into more detail, but I do not know where the service connector is on a 4 gen lude. I'm sure someone here will answer that.
The CEL is not just an annoying light, it comes on because the ecu is trying to tell you something. When the light comes on it is because the ecu has determined that there is a problem and it has stored a code that corresponds to that problem in its memory. One extracts the code, looks up the code, finds out what the problem is, and troubleshoots from there.

i was near redline when this all occured, my friends think its because of an O2 sensor, the car runs fine and can hold at a idle and isnt cutting out
On a 4th gen the thingy mentioned above is behind the radio.... The code chekin thing... It should be back there under the whole dash kinda hanging free, but easy to acess... When I needed to check mine I just stuck my hand around my cover by the gas pedal... Its a blue connector with two wires coming out of it... Too see the code, stick a wire in both of the slots and turn the car to the ON position where the guages are lit.... The check engine light will flash accordingly... Long flashes are for 10's and short are for 1 digits.... ex. 2 long, 3 short, mean code 23..... It repeats itself again and again... Once you find it out post it here and I will check my manual for the code.... Then you can find out the problem.... Honestly, if the light is on, I would rather check it out to be safe, instead of being really sorry later!

Ya hey im the freind. Thomas I said on my car it is the 02 sensor because i have an aftermarket cat and something is defective with it. I found this out by sparking the connector above the ECU chip and it threw me my code. and in return I found out my problem. All you have to do is see what code u r throwing. As for a button to turn off the check engine light I believe there isn;t one that one on the integra you were talking about is for the matience required light which allows mechanics to turn it off at the dealership once it is tuned up. This light is based on your mileage is warning you soon to be needed tune ups. Let me know and I will see if the lude is like my teg and we will c what code u r thowing
