You should be able to feel it, or atleast tell by engine sound. Its at around 4500rpm. Feel Free To Correct Me If I'm Wrong.

VTEC depends on throttle position (= load) - so it varies but anywhere from 4800-5300rpm (lower for WOT and higher for cruising)

Wrong. Not flaming but in a SOHC engine you cnnot tell at all when vtec kicks in. there is no difference in engine sound or g force. Pretty much you an only tell by how fast the rpms fly up.

you sure? Cause, i know you cannot feel vtec in a sohc engine, but I do hear a difference in the sound.

4400 rpm , you can't hear or feel a difference, but if you watch the tach you can see a slight change. why does it matter though

you can hear and slightly feel vtec in a Sohc Vtec engine. I have found using my fields vtec controller on my Z6 i can hear it a lot better when i move it higher in the RPM band(its really loud at 6000+ rpms). And i can really hear it in 1st, 3rd and 4th (never hit it in 5th). I have mine at 5000, but i believe the Y8 P2P ecu hits it at 5200, but i could be wrong. btw not to knock anyone but the sohc vtec engines are very capable of making power, they just get kicked around because i wouldn't want an N/A sohc vtec (bolt on's only) in a coupe i would want to swap in a b series because of the torque needed to move the weight of a coupe. In comparison for the money i could spend on putting a b16a in my car, i could put the same money into my Z6 and make it smoke a b series swap without even using forced induction or nitrous. just my .02

My wifes 00 Civic ex has a very noticeable vtec crossover sound around 5300 rpm or so. All she has is a intake.

well i could hear it when it was stock as a little high pitched whistle but since i got all my mods(i/h/e, testpipe, gutted) i chouldn't hear the whirr anymore so i put in a vtec activation light that is hooked up to the vtec solonoid so it turns on when vtec kicks in, pretty handy for learning your engine and tranny.
