1st gear @ 7psi...then back to 5psi every gear after...whats wrong?
ive been running off the wastegate spring for a while (7 psi spring, source=compressor, 5psi @ manifold after ic) but today i got bored. so I went to home depot and made my own $5 spring/ball mbc and now its acting weird. when i start on 1st the needle climbs to 7psi but then when i pop 2nd it goes back to 5 and stays there. what could be causing this or how do i fix it
I would say take out the homemade boost controller and buy a TurboXs manual boost controller. They are only about 70 dollars and work quite well.
Just my .02 cents.

this is only temporary. i went to 3 different shops and none had the turboxs in stock. jotech had the dual stage for $200, but for that price i thought i'd just wait/save and get the profect b. halman boost controllers work the same and so do many of the boost controllers dsm owners use. $5 isnt going to hurt me
I dont know what size exhaust you have but that could be the problem. Also if it is an internal wg it might be built up with carbon.

I believe the screw/spring he tried to replace/adjust is not holding and leaking boost.... or whatever contraption he made to adjust boost....

it's the boost controller that you made, it's not abe to keep up with the regulation that it needs to do. Your turbo is going to try to spool more in second gear because it has more load so moreload = faster stronger spool.....the turbo is trying it's hardest to spool as far as you will allow it, the mbc that you made cant controll it good enough.
I had the same problem, the turbo would spools so fast, it would spike then drop off after the mbc kicked in...kind of a delayed reaction

I spent $50 on a Hallman boost controller and it jumps to seven or so, then settles down to 6. I even tried Hallman's ceramic ball and lighter spring and still the same problem. I don't know what to do. Just be glad you only spent $5!

wg=35mm tial
exhaust=rs*r 60mm (little less than 2.5"), this is what i though was the problem at first
its not sticking, just the opposite, so it wont cost more than $5
like i said this was only temporary, i will be buying a ebc in the near future. I was bored of 5psi and was ready to experiment with higher boost+toluene/xylene mix.
b16,
i forgot to mention, if im cruising @ normal speeds (40-50) and drop it to 2nd, it will hit 7psi and then settle back down at 5psi when i hit the next gear
im going to mess with it some more tomorrow when its not dark and maybe get it to work right...tomorrow is test&tune at the local strip

turbo XS boost controller
i have one and I love it, no spike, very predictable, quick spool up.

tried 7, 9psi and still the same problem. so i took it apart, cut the spring shorther and stretched it to make up for the lenght difference. this made the spring a bit stiffer. ran it again and it seemed to only drop down from 8-9 to 6psi.
does anyone have a used turboxs for <$50
hey DIrep, when are you guys meeting again...it seems like the weather is getting better now.
and has there been a dyno day at jotech yet? any plans to?
