did you read the post, the bulb still lights up when the car starts like how all the idiot lights do when the car is started, not the bulb

obd II will only throw the check engine light on when the error code is recorded three times. By completing a "drive cycle" odb sees this as command to certain tests of the emission-related obd. I can give you the details if you want them. But I a willing to bet that what ever fault that was causing the code that was turning the check engine light on stopped. By the starts and stops of daily driving you completed the drive cycle and the computer no longer saw the code. You should be all set unless the code comes back. Note: you must complete 40 drive cycles before the code is erased and the light goes out.

my girl's 1998 Neon R/T goes threw spark plugs like they are going out of style. Once I change the plugs, the light goes out after a couple of days of her driving around.

Hope that helps

Edit: to add number of drive cycles required to erase fault code

Not sure if you saw it (I just added it), but it takes 40 of these drive cycles to erase the error code.

A single drive cycle consists of: Start engine, idle cold for 2min 10sec
Accel to 20-30mph, maintain steady speed for 3min 15sec
Accel to 40-60mph, maintain steady speed for 15min
Decel and come to a stop. Idle in gear for 5min
Now imagine how long it would take to goe through 40 of those drive cycles during daily driving without doing it on purpose.

That is real interesting!

My GF's CEL on her 626 pops up sporadically when driving...sometimes it seems like its RPM dependent. Just driving along and *pop* light on, 7 seconds later, *pop* light off. And it NEVER occurs when at idle or with the car sitting in the *on* position, only pops on and off when driving. Im clueless.

Talk about a phantom CEL!
