140k on my 1990 integra, should i go b18a again/ b16/ b20... i plan on turboing
Well, I finally got a 1990 RS integra after selling my b16'ed CRX HF. The engine has about 140k miles on it. I want to turbo the car itself with whatever motor i decide to drop in it. Im on a fairly low budget ( i know you there is no low budget turbo project) but these are my plans for the summer where I will see way more money than I do now.
Whatever I do has to be somewhat reliable. I planned on doing a AFC hack with 450cc injectors and a fuel pump. Then going for tuning. I'd say around 7-8 psi. Besides option 1. , The motor i boost with be for the most part stock.
Here are my options I have thought of recently.. If you have any suggestions or other options let me know..
1. Rebuild my original engine.. Rebuild the top end/ build up the block/ new **** like clutch ( id be doing a new clutch on another engine anyway), cables, hoses. This option can get pricy but can be worth it in the long run.
2. Somehow fork up enough cash to get a b16a complete. and run boost with a short geared tranny. ( has anyone ever run a b16 boosted with LS tranny?
3. Get a b20z long block and swap everything over. Problem here is.. Dont the b20's have weak sleeves? ( How much is it to get it resleeved)
4. Find another b18a long block with lower miles and call it a day.
Remember, before giving your opinion, im on a low budget, but i dont mind saving longer to get something that would be better in the long run.
Thanks guys.

I'd just swap in a new b18a/b longblock if you plan keeping it stock internals w/ that amount of boost...
I got a brand new one w/ 9k miles for 850 delivered to me...It came from a place in Ohio, I'll see if I can find the place for ya...also a kid also got a 4k mile 2000 ex motor for like 500 from them...good stuff

b20 sleeves on 7 psi will hold up...but it is all about tunning, you may want to run alittle rich for safty reasons....BUT if i were you i would just get a b18a agian, just cause you can boost the **** outa it, friend of mine has an 99 si coupe with a b18 turbo, run 13.4 with slicks on 7 psi, not to shabby

b18b dude, they're just meant to be.. mine has never broke down on me once, it will last u forever! i have 97,900 miles and i had my 95 teg since 98 with low miles when 1st bought.. what ya'll think? decent or too many miles? i not sure, cuz i drive my car hella!
I agree. B18b is an awesome motor and has hella potential. Even if you don't turbo it, I have heard of people with built LS all motor that run like 13's and stomp GSR's. Imagine that, with a turbo.
ive heard of a lot of people who are really happy with their b20z's, and know someone who hooked up a turbocharger to it. they have had it on for about six months and no problems yet. im not sure which turbo he has attached to it, but he says he is only running about 5-7 lbs of boost. another good thing about the b20z is you can get low milage ones for relativly cheap.
b16 head, b20 block. Even as a basic ls/vtec if you change nothing else it will still flow better for boost (or not) than a nonvtec head.
