checking ecu for codes.
how do you check what code a ecu is throwing in a 00 si?
my friends check engine light came on the other day and we want to find out what is going on.
BTW his car just reached 30k when it turned on, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

i don't think 30k has anything to do with it. unless it's the maintaince light some cars are equipped with.
On the passenger floorboard up under by the glovebox is the service check connector. Unplug that from the plastic thingy, then take something metal (a short length of wire or even a paper clip will suffice) and loop it between the two pins. Then turn the key to "on" and the CEL will blink a code- Long for the 1st digit of the code, then short for the second. Ex- Code 43 will blink _ _ _ _ ...
Then look in your Helms manual ( you do have a manual, don't you?) and check out what code that stands for. Or, if you don't have one I'm sure someone would be able to look it up for you here. Hope this helps.
