Oh yeah, are you talking about the type S motor or not?

No, just the regular JDM h22a1.
Oh, so how was the compression changed?? Different pistons??

US: 10.0:1 compression
Japan: 10.6:1 compression

Yep, pistons. Also, the JDM motor is referred to only as the "H22A" with no numerical prefix after it.

and becasue of restrictions. USA has stricter laws about pollution.

true, but specifically CA emission laws.

like already mentioned different pistons and likely a better tuned ecu to use the extra compression better.

JDM H22s will pass emissions and remember why we get so many with 30-40K on them, cause Japan taxes the **** out of high mileage motors for 2 reason: keep auto industry going and emissions.

FWIW, my bone-stock 1993 Prelude VTEC (US model) used to just barely pass Pennsylvania emissions every year. From what I understand, CA emissions have even lower limits. That car had 27k mi to 69k mi on it when I owned it. The H22A is not the cleanest running engine to begin with...

A person who got his JDM H22 swapped at the same shop as me passed emissions in MA with a new oem lude cat. Luckily NH has no emissions.

different cam profiles:

Stock Specs from H22 Type SH Int-275 mid Exh-275 mid Int-225 mid Exh-227 mid Int-.448 mid Exh-.415 mid

Stock Specs from H22 JDM-spec Int-271 mid Exh-277 mid Int-224 mid Exh-224 mid Int-.446 mid Exh-.415 mid

10.6 compression ratio,

and ECU tunning...

other than that all similar

Correction: Only certain areas of PA have emmisions! (mostly in the pittsburgh and philly areas)
