does water seep into your spare tire well?
im just wondering this, but during these past few days of heavy storms here in san francisco. my eg's spare tire area has been accumiliating some water lately. anyone else expericne this? how can i fix this? i have a feeling its something on my trunk's rubber lining.
Check out the tail light assemblies.....after some age the seams loose their water integrity. If these is some water buildup in the tail light housings I'd bet that is the source. Otherwise the trunk weather stripping may be the case.
When I wash mine if I spray alot of water around the tail lights I do get some water in the spare tire area. I think it's related to the tail lights. I'm stripped so I just wipe it away.

mine was i just found out yesterday.....due to the weather stripping on my tail lights, water was some how leaking in!
I had this problem to. I found it to be the outer taillight assembley. They had lost their sealing (just time and wear i guess) where they are pressed together. Water was getting in and then seeping out of the light sockets and running into the spare tire area. I tore apart the plastic paneling inside, removed the taillight and ran some clear silicone sealant around it. I haven't had a problem since.
Also check the foam/rubber gasket that goes between the body and the taillight assembly. It might be torn.
To me it was worth the effort, because I use that area quite often and the carpet would get wet, which in turn would soak my belongings.

I'm having the same problem with my EG. I was cleaning it out before a trip a few weeks ago and found literally inches of water in the spare tire well. I have no clue where it's coming from. I haven't checked the taillights or anything yet, but I plan to soon. But I'm also getting water on underneath the back seat. I took it out and it was literally soaked like a sponge dripping water all over the place. Seems more on the passenger side than on the driver's side, but I'm not sure. Anybody ever have that problem in addition to the spare tire water? I'll try to check taillight seals today, we'll see how that goes. Any advice would be awesome though. Thanks.

some times it is also the seem from the quarter panel to the trunk area. i only got water when i swapped out tail-lights along time ago. you could actually take it to one of those car wash bays and sit in the trunk with the seat folded down and watch while someone pressure washes your car
