Default B18A vs. SOHC Turbo..yes again...

So i found a B18A engine full swap for $899. Or should I just stick with my original plans of the Turbo. This is a daily grind so what is the upkeep on each of these engines. Very minimal labor on the swap, heavy discount labor on the turbo and the price of the turbo barely above cost. Please give me some stuff that I can work with here and not the usual banter of which is prefered. I would like to hear the pros and cons from those of you who have them. The next up is the B18C and that jumps into the $2000 range for the front clip. That do you all think?

Turbo will be faster, swap will be more reliable

Have you considered swapping now, then turboing that later. Then you have the best of both worlds

for a b18a that is expensive as hell. I was gonna pick up a b18a block the other day for 50 bucks but opted not too. I wish i did though. I've seen a few blocks here in houston go for 1000 for a b18b swap.

You know I spoke to my buddy today, he said that it is not a B16A1, but a B18B. I was alos thinking, how compatable is the Turbo set up on a D16Y7 with a B18B if I were to change the engine later, would I be able to swap the turbo over without too much hastle?

You would need at least a new exhaust manifold...

you'll need a new manifold, and im not sure of all the other parts you'll need, but the turbo will spool up a lot quicker because it's a smaller turbo meant for the sohc motor. what turbo kit is it ? is it Greddy, Rev Hard ?

The Greddy. I think that is what I am planning to do...and get a B18C5, I got a guy whose gonna give me a front clip for $2500, under 50k guaranteed, but I can't get that cash yet.

So now your going to get a b18c5 front clip for 2500? And put a greddy turbo kit on it? That would be a good waste of a motor if you did that......Unless you plan on spending some cash to get it "Properly"set up. Just me $.2

Why would that be a waste of a motor?

yea so like the B18a is what like 140 off the flywheel???? Unless you do a conversion screw it. Besides its an older engine right? so how would you be more relyable?? it would have high mileage right?
Besides the sway compared to a turbo install is totally different, swaps are a pain in teh *** where a turbo can be setup in a matter of hours.
go turbo with some minor internal work, cams and stuff...

the greddy
how about the high compression of the r
the short gearing of the tranny.
not optimized for a turbo, optimized for an all motor set up.
why not just boost the ls? ls is a dime a dozen for the engine if he blows it unlike an r, and the compression is more boost friendly, as is the trannies longer gearing.
ANd the fact that you could get a better kit pieced together for about the same as price the greddy would run.

ill call bs on this. swaps are a pain in the ***, but a straight bolt in right? The turbo kit is a straight bolt in right? The "minor internal work, cams and stuff" is going to be more of a pain in the *** than a swap. And will not be able to be completed in a matter of hours, althogh you could bolt on the turbo ina matter of hours granted you have all of the right tools, such as a welder to weld the oil return line onto the oil pan. If not then that will take some time As far as the handling diff. it is very minimal
