Default Shimming Oil Pump Spring (higher oil pressure)

Would anyone happen to know what size shim to insert below the pressure relief spring on an H22 oil pump for an extra 10-15psi at 3,000RPM? Any links or telephine contact information would be greatly appreciated.

Shimming the bypass spring will only aid in a PSI increase in upper RPM. To get a higher PSI lower you will have to change bearing clearances.

Also interested.

Any downsides to this?

What kind of oil pressure do you currently have at 3000 RPM. A safe rule of thumb is for every 1000 RPM you want 10psi so you should have 30 psi (or more) at 3000 RPM.

Digging the topic out from the grave

I'd like to know what should be changed/replaced to achieve higher oil pressure.
Some diagrams/pics would be very helpful though.

I want to know too.. More oil pressure is always better in a roadrace car...

even though i would'nt reccommend doing this i will tell you how to raise your oil pump pressure.

all you have to do is put a small washer 1/16 - 1/8 inch in between the bolt and the regulator. this should give you around 10 -20 psi more than stock at max pressure in your higher rpm range. thats what most companies do when they sell you a higher pressure oil pump. i bought one from a place that said higher volume and higher pressure and when i took it aprt and compared it to my original one it was actually smaller although it did have the washer in it to raise the oil pressure.

honestly though you should not have to raise your oil pressure unless you have a oil cooled turbo and your running high boost or any other extreme race engine set up.which even then you should try to get more oil volume before you raise the pressure too much. the best way to do it is get the complete moroso set up with the external high volume dry sump pump and larger pan. i know a closed course race crx that uses this and it works eally well. when i had crower rods je pistons and a bunch of other work done i still had stock oil pressure and it ran fine.

if you really feel it neccessary go ahead and do it but if you actually have a car in need of higher volume and pressure go with a dry sump and larger pan just to be a safe and know its gonna work, that way you can adjust your pressure and set it according to your application.
