Default Shimmed oil pump?

Ok, to those of you guys who have shimmed your oil pump, how did you do it?

Currently my oil pressure is about 15 at idle, and 50~55 above 3K. This some what worries me becuase the stock pressure was like 75~80 about 3k.

Before now the lowered oil pressure really hasn't bothered me becuase I know it's better for the turbo. But.....I'm going to be taking my LS to 8K duties every once in a while after I install a few parts on it. I'm want to bump the oil pressure back up as a safety precuation for those occasional high RPM zings.

Thanx guys

~Steven

From what I understand, you take the oil pump out and the spring in there. Your suppose to add 1 or two washers to make the spring pressure tighter. Therefore it raises the oil pressure. Hope that gives you a basic idea.

Does anyone have an exact size of the washer that is needed?

Thanks

I am removing my Shimming now because I beleive I've blown out the seals on my turbo... On colder mornings, I'd see 90 PSI of oil pressure <using 10w30 oil> at IDLE!

Once the car warmed up, it was ok, but it'd smoke fairly badly til the car was warmed up and it was jsut annoying. It could have some to do with my drainback, as well, but I think 90 PSI at cold idle is rediculous!

Hope this helps.

Did you ever think of putting a preassure regulator inline with your turbo oil feed like your supposed to do?

even if I did that... how is 90 PSI good for my rodbearings and internal seals?

Just wondering if anyone one know what amount the spring needs to be shimmed to get the oil pressure back up to around normal?

back when aebs blueprinted my b16 block they machined a shim about 1/8 inch thick. don't know whether that's correct or not.. but that's what they did.
