Default Driving techniques after your 60ft

Any tips to help me get my high compression b20vtec 92 hatch down the track quicker on street tires? Im curious as to what else can be done to shave time off during the 1/4mile other than the initial launch. Like, should i be "powershifting"(holding the gas pedal floored while i shift, and just shift, and dump the clutch as quick as i can. Some people have told me this, and others say to be smooth. Basically, what im curious about is provided you have traction, and dont miss shift, and can shift relativly fast, is there anything else that you can do to possibly drive the car quicker? THanks for tha help.

Absolutly do not powershift. Results are minimal and while damage can be horrible. The only thing I can tell you is to minimize any other movement of the car down the track, meaning, keep it dead straight, sometimes the car my veer left or right, so try to keep it straight. Remember the shortest distance from point A-point B is a straight line. That's the best advice I can give you, but then agian I'm a NoOb

I just concentrate on shifting smoothly and quickly. I'm happy if I can hear my exhaust constantly down the 1/4 mile with no breaks.

i have no idea about ur setup, but speed shifting for me w/ my swap is horrible....even slowly going into 2nd i break traction through the whole gear if i dont feather the gas. 3rd lets out little as well. i am running on shitty nitto 450s, so maybe better tires might help me.

you spent $3-5,000+ on "high compression b20vtec" but won't spend $300 on a set of slicks.

Power to the SOHC!

Well what are your times now? Post a timeslip and it will better help us to understand.

So are you saying that you are getting quicker timeslips when you slow your shifting down, so that you dont spin as much when you shift gears? Because right now, when i powershift into second, I spin second gear real bad, and the car starts to drift in my lane usually. Now i know that I should not be powershifting, so i will stop doing this(ive done it maybe 5 passes down the track).

Here are 2 of my most recent timeslips:

r/t .718 .815
60 2.281 2.253
330 6.161 6.125
1/8 9.229 9.217
mph 80.87 80.60
1000 11.880 11.892
1/4 14.116 14.129
mph 101.02 101.01

These are with my street tires. The reason i still run on street tires is because I want to hit a 13.5 on street tires before I get drag radials or slicks(just a personal goal ive set). When tax returns come back this year, im going to get some bogarts and slicks. But for the time being Im trying to find out what else i can do to reach my goal, besides more power to my motor and slicks. Maybe you guys can help me analyze my timeslips a little. Its funny, my old turbocrx was running 14.0's with the same 60ft times, and that car had much less power than my b20vtec. Im not used to driving with all this power. Any tips would be appreciated. thanks

13.5 on streets, I understand your goals.

With streets, launch soft, shift hard 2-3.

BTW nice MPH for street tires, learn to control you right foot. I can't, therefore I run slicks!

so are u saying that i should shift hard when i shift from 1st to second, and from 2nd to 3rd? Or that i should be smooth and slow down my shifting from 1st to second(to avoid spinning as much), and shift hard from 2nd to 3rd? Im getting pretty good at launching smoothly, i never spin outta the hole, but when vtec hits in first gear, forget it.

always SHIFT fast. Its whether you get off and back on the gas in between, which should also be pretty fast. Can't say I agree with powershifting either.

If when VTEC hits at full throttle you spin, get it tuned. Power should be smooth, not choppy enough to break traction.

Are you dropping front tire pressure any when racing? Do you feather the gas/clutch off the line?
My bad, you are asking about after the first 60 foot. Something that can help against the spinning into the nest gear is to stop the weight transfer. Most times when you are a hard shifter, weight transfers to the rear taking pressure off the front tires, and can cause them to spin. Need to firm up the rear suspension.
