Help: Launching + shifting-understanding RPM-searched MANY times!
Well,
I am wondering about a few things that remain unclear to me. First, when launching, I understand that you are to hold the throttle at a certain RPM while SLOWLY letting off the clutch. Now, what is the highest RPM this can safely be done at? How do I keep at that RPM while letting off the clutch? I experience a drop from 6k to 4k when launching, and I beleive that maybe I should be pressing down on the gas a little bit more while the clutch begins to engage?
Also, when shifting, how do I know what is the optimal way to shift? Do I want to keep the RPM's high while shifting quickly at the expense of spinning tires as the RPM's rise, or do I want to shift quick, but only quick enough to chirp and go ie shift at 8500 and land at 6200. Would I be faster if i slam shift and land at closer to 7 while spinning? Will the engine pull the car harder if its at 7k rather than 6.2k from the same road speed, enough so that I will gain from this?
The reasons why I ask are because I suck at launching, and because when I have gone to the track I have shifted "gently" but fast, resulting in low traps (92-93 mph) The one time i spun tires shifting very fast into second, my trap raised up a slight bit. Is it likely that my traps are lower than what they should be because I am not leaving the line in vtec?
I am asking those of you who have alot of experience at the track to give me detailed advice on how to keep my RPM when launching, and which shifting method is proven to be the best for a high trap, and/or low ET.
BTW I am not interested in talking about 60 ft's and ET's as much as I am about road speed and "power shifting," and understanding the RPM's relation to the car.
I appreciate all help, and yes i have read many threads on this topic, but I feel that there is more knowledge out there. THANKS!

I personally like to launch around 5500 RPM. I have found it to be the best for me. I had a 2.2 60 and a 14.5 rt bone stock. make sure you drop the tire pressure also. what mods do you have done?

I launch at about 2500 RPM. Shift at 4000 RPM.

my R is completely stock, I have read the active aero post several, several times. I will read it again. I was going to even write that in my original post that i have read it. It held some great info that benefited me as well as others im sure, but the questions that I asked were not covereed in the detail that my newB *** desires.
01ph0559: i have dropped the pressure, and that helped the hop out a little bit. i think i dropped it to about 22 psi. your 14.5 is impressive, what type of shifting tactics are you using? my best in 6 runs was a 15.1 with a 2.3 60 foot missing 4th completely and letting of the throttle and trapping 86 mph. pretty sad for an R owner.

I guess that sucks. My best 60' ever was a 2.299, which is horrible enough for me to feel unworthy. I don't plan on making my R a drag car or anything, I just would like to know how to make the car go as fast as possible on my part.

Well, My first drag racing experience was at Beaver Springs on the 9th. My best 60' was 2.3, 15.05et, and trapping on all of my 6runs at 94.4mph. i know its not the best time i could have done but i think it was good for my first time dragging with the R. Practice is a must

I think you'd learn a lot more by practicing a lot than by getting the "magic launch" RPM from someone here.
Keep in mind, V-TAK doesn't come on until you're going >15 MPH, so if you're slipping the clutch at 8000 RPM, you're way past your peak torque on the LOW cam. So for the first 15 MPH you'd be better served slipping at 6000 RPM than at 8000 RPM.
Also, you can get stickier tires, which play a huge role. And try lower front tire pressure (15-20 PSI? Depends on the tire! Bring a tire pump, you can buy an electric one cheap.)

yeah as far as RPM's go i figure launch between 5800-7000, what active aero said in his FAQ.
what i am hugely confused about is shifting. acceleration feels faster power shifting rather than regular speed shifting, but on the track will that help keep a fluid motion between shifts? when i shift "normal" and fast at the track, i feel that between shifts my car is losing mph somehow.
i havent had enough track time to experience for myself the different ways to run the car, and i cant afford to buy new tires every 10k, so i wanna make it count the next time i go.

ok, this is all you need to do...

then get to the line, clutch in, 5500 RPMS or so, come off the clutch fast, but not a complete dump and just floor it
bring it right to 8500 and shift as fast as you can
DONT power shift, bad for tranny
even with a 2.2 60ft you should be able to mark a 14.75 at 94-95mph
in a stock R, wheel hop is expected, just go with it

you couldnt floor it, because like you said you were too lazy to lower pressure down on tires
on a STOCK R, you can floor it off the line once your off and going
on azenis tires, 20 psi, after a sick burnout, i did a complete drop at 5500, hooked right up, 2.0 60ft and a 14.7 when i was stock

i have a gsr and i was that friend who ran a 20.xx et last year...sad yes but i was only driving for about 3 months
now my traps are much better but my 60s still blow
last time i was down i lowered tire pressure to 20 psi...on kuhmo ecsta supras....feathered from 3500 and hopped like a mother....could it be these tires? my 60 foots are like 2.4+

Hey to each there own. Regardless of tire pressure I like to hold half throttle so the speedo as well as rpms will raise and when I shift to 2nd it won't drop out of vtec and bog. Just my preference.

right after my trips to the track i was at 30k at the time, i got the valve adjustment, and i got new plugs along with the whole acura bs service. Now, do you think that the fact that i ran the same plugs for 30k and beat the car hard pretty regularly that could be why i was unable to trap regular R speed?(94-96 mph) i havent gotten to the track since.. would this make a BIG difference in the car, or not so much?
I really wanna get on a roadcoourse sometime, but im afraid of totalling the R, plus im broker than ****, so 1/4 mile is more up my alley for now.
