Default noticeable diff with vtec on turbo d16z6?

currently running the pm6 setup on the turbo, just curious if I would notice a diff with the p28 in a vtec working. at 5.5 psi I was pretty much keeping up with my friends 90 mustang 5.0. still working out details. hope to ditch my stock exhaust in the next week or two so I can turn up the boost some more.

VTEC is always better than no VTEC.

Big diff. It doesn't rip the tires off when VTEC hits, but I tried unplugging VTEC and the car just fell on it's face HARD once it hit 5000 RPM. My highly calibrated butt dyno says that when I unplugged VTEC, I lost about 30 HP above 5000 RPM.

I wouldn't say its a totally different feeling without the VTEC... remember, its only a SOHC VTEC. I should know, beacuse I used to run a boosted D16Y8 in my civic at 1.2 bar of boost. Turned it off and didn't really notice the difference that much (could have been because I was already pushing a lot of boost, so the car was already pulling extremely hard)

Kinda OT, but you sohc'rs with the the greddy and other turbo kits-has anyone else noticed that as you approach 5500rpm at 100% throttle in 1st gear its worthless (excessive wheel spin in dry conditions)-I have 205's dunlop sport FM901s.......and 1st is worthless, and unless i space out the 1st to 2nd gear throw, 2nd is worthless as well...........god i love boost.........im only at 6psi, cant wait to see what 10psi feels like. Oh yeah, those tires are brand new,, power transeferred via ACT xtreme HD plate and street disc. These aint no bricks either...check the rubber:

Better be careful with that diff. Those things are downright puny. Push them much at all, and they're scrap.

i get wheelspin near the end of 1st sometimes. i think it depends on the weather and how flat (or bumpy) the ground is. i'm runnin on Pirelli P700Z 195/50/15 at 95% tread and they've worked great for me so far. it does kinda stink wen it starts spinning the end of first and then you throw it into 2nd and it continues to spin. can't wait to try out some drag radials or at least some azenis if i can get ahold of a pair
