Whats better for turbo(or safer)? VTEC OR NON VTEC
I wanted to boost my D16. I have 2 engines though. A D16Z6 and a D16Y7. I was wondering which one would be safer to boost. VTEC OR NON VTEC for boosting?

I was talking to some honda tuning guy and he was telling me that vtec will kill your engine if you are going to boost it. It will burn your valves when vtec kicks in. Is this right?

No. Both engines reliability will be down to the torque production that the cast pistons and sleeves can handle. Has nothing to do with VTEC. Look into more D-series setups and see what others engines are tapping out at. Also, I'd recommend doing head studs. On a D, you probably will lift the head. lol

Re: Whats better for turbo(or safer)? VTEC OR NON VTEC
I guess technically, a vtec engine revs higher, and will make power higher up in the rpm range. So most likely you will be revving your engine out more, and living in the upper half of the rpm's. This will put more wear on your engine than running it at a lower rpm, so i guess in that round about way you could think so.
But power (torque) is what will kill an engine. Two engines with perfect tunes, one making 400hp, one making 200, the one with 200 will last longer. less stress on the internals.

both engines can make the same power, if anything the vtec motor will last longer because it will have need less boost to make the same power (efficiency)
go with the z6 and dont look back

Thanks for the replies.. I just wanted to start this thread so I could show it to some people and laugh including the honda guy that told me that. I know vtec has nothing to do with turboing a car but whos gona listen to a 17 year old.
