got some questions...
1. did you just do a swap? and how long ago?
2. did you check the thermostat?
3. did you bleed the engine? are there any possiblities of air bubbles in the cooling system?
4. did you check the water pump?
5. are there holes in the radiator? any leaks?
6. is this happening when you're on a regular road or just on the highway?
7. does the fan work, spin?
8. are your sensors for the cooling system shot?
edit: once you answer these questions, im pretty sure H-T members can narrow down the problem for you.

turn on your car, let it warm up - wait a few minutes. and check to see if the fan is coming on. if your temp just rises, and the fan doesn't come on, then you probably have a bad thermostat.
also check your timing, if it's too far advanced or way too far retarded, it will overheat.
or it might just be air bubbles in your coolant.

wow, this just happened to me. when your car is heated up (when it gets higher than normal operating temp) then stick your hand through the front bumper and feel the radiator (the center of the radiator) be careful because it could be hot. if its not hot, its probably your thermostat. just go to kragen and buy a replacement one. dont' forget you need the o ring too. i forget what part numbers they are.......you just have to look it up in the little book that they have there. then...change the thermostat. refill coolant in the radiator (i guarantee you'll spill some) and then...start up the car w/o the radiator cap on so that all the bubbles of air can come out of the radiator. hopefully that will fix your problem. if i didnt' explain it good then you can IM me.
oh i forgot... you can hardwire your fan to the battery to see if the fan is the problem...but if you feel the radiator first (see above), you will know if the fan is not coming on.

i was driving locally and when the temp was high i pulled over and looked to see if the fan was on and it wasn't. i'm thinkin i have a bad thermostat. any advice?
Thanks,
Ed

i had the same problem as you....look at my above post....try hardwiring the fan to the battery to just test if its working. just connect stereo wire or something from the battery to the terminals of the fan. if it starts spinning, then you know its not the fan. MOST LIKELY its the thermostat....since i had the same exact problem as you, and i changed my thermostat and it was fine after that.

This is my exact problem...well, mostly...always good to see others in dire straits
Just kiddin...but I'm going to replace the coolant w/fresh stuff (from Honda) then switch out the thermostat. If that doesn't work, I'm going to change the thermoswitch (fan switch).

check if the radiator is hot too (when your temp guage is high) because that means that the hot coolant is not circulating through the radiator. this is not usually a fan problem. just do the test to see if the fan is working. its not that hard and it only takes like 5 min.
alright guys... i replaced the thermostat... then everything is OK everthing is back to normal. BUT the next day i did about 2 hrs of driving then towards the end the temp started rising again. Now it didn't rise to H as it did before but it went up to about three fourths. as to before i would drive about 10 mins then it would work its way up to H.
Do i have anyother problems since the temp started goin up after a couple hours of drivng?

My 93LX had the same problem. I replace all the coolant hoses, thermostat and I checked the fan. Everything worked. One mechanic told me to fell the radiator after i drive around. If half of it is cool and the other half is hot, then its your radiator. So I replaced my radiator with a dual core vtec one and the car stays nice and cool. I live in FL where its hot all the time and the needle doesnt move at all. My old radiator was all corroded and clogged.

when i did my swap my friend took the thermostat out to keep the engine cooler so why don't u just take the thermostat out and maybe it won't overheat
i believe bleeding the system means that there might be possibilities of air bubbles in the engines cooling system. you might want to check to see if the hoses are hard or soft, if they're hard, then you're fine, but if they're soft, then you have air in the cooling system which keeps antifreeze from flowing smoothly through your system which causes your temp to rise. also, check your radiator for leaks! good luck!
get a del sol dual core radiator and replace fan switch. with that and a new termostat you should be fine, unless its the water pump?!?
