This is a hit that was taken from a bent rod at the bottom of cyl 1. There is no damage to the cylinder lining at all. Should I just scrap this one, or would some 900psi JB weld work to fix this? Being at the bottom of the cylinder, it wouldnt see pressure as would the upper portion. My largest concern as it is would be coolant leaking. Can this be repaired?

 

Test it for leaks but that should be no problem. Block gets clearanced more than that for eagle rods.

 

This is good to hear. My other block did not require notching for the S2 rods, the girdle, yes. This particular block is in otherwise beautiful shape. Hell, it still had the OEM bearings. Not sure why the rod bent, I got no back story on it at all other than it having a bent rod. **shrug** I am looking to set this one up with some MID sleeves; either Crower or Darton. The prices seem to be similar between the 2, I'd probably go with Darton since I've seen those used more..

The engine likely hydro-locked. Water will bend a rod enough to cause contact on one side of the base of the cylinder liner/bore.

 

Ooohhh.. I hadn't thought of that. It seemed odd that the piston wasnt damaged or anything. The rings looked good. Just weird. I had to cut the rod to get it out, easy but nerve wracking; trying to avoid hitting anything.
