Default VTEC Engage

Wassup Hondatech, So i'm having a bit of a issue here, a friend of mine has done a engine swap onto my car putting a JDM B16A2 in, The problem that i am having though is the car is not engaging VTEC at all not even at 5,500 RPM I tried going a bit higher around 7 7.5 but no sign of it.
Was wondering if anyone has had this issue before and what the main causes would be.

Also that my car aswell is Misfiring when it drives but fine in idle!

Any information regarding this would help alot thankyou!

if you're misfiring I wouldn't rev it high.... either way I think there is a safety feture in place NOT to engage the VTEC if there is a misfire. you can also check the screen on the seal for the solenoid, could be gunked up. also, you didn't say if the car had a vtec engine before the swap, if it didn't, what are you using as a vtec controller?

As Ron would say, let's address the misfire first. Post codes

With friends like that....

The ECU uses a Pressure-Density fuel mixture control scheme. A MAP sensor is essential to this scheme.
If it is a chipped ECU you need to look at the documentation for the chip and the tune.

Put a map sensor in. It needs one to read air/fuel mixture.

Just because its a spoon ecu, it doesnt make it the best setup for your motor. Get one that’ll work for a jdm b16 so you can drive to your tuner and Get it tuned to your exact setup.

There's no such thing as a JDM B16A2

you should never allow them near your car again. Clearly have no idea how to work on honda. And earlier B16a’s have a firewall mounted map sensor. Taht may be where rhe confusion is coming from.

Looks like a USDM B16A2 engine, but the intake manifold must be from a JDM B16A SIR-II which takes the remote MAP sensor. The vacuum port coming off the top of the throttle body should connect to it.

The rubber hose coming off the TB sitting on the intake tube MUST be connected to a map sensor, you will have to find a way to mount it or find the fuel filter/map sensor bracket (they go together) i can post a pic of mine if you need, or u can zip tie a map to something to secure. Second, i would remove the red cap on the black tube and put a little filter on it since it can’t reach the intake tube, this part is designed to draw fresh air into the engine.

JDM manifolds don’t have the purge stuff, his does. Unless he added it.
