Help:Retarding Dizzy cap
i retarded my dizzy just about half pass of where it use to be. Will it be alright to leave it like that? or will it mess anything up? i retarded it because someone told me it would help my NOx on my emissions testing. should i set it back to where it's suppose to be after im done? with the emissions, or can leave it ? thanks
yeah, buy a timing light. Did you at least make a mark before you messed with it, so that you can set it back to where it was before?
BTW, I don't think retarding the dizzy will help your emissions. I did hear that advancing it does.

you dont gotta buy a timing light .. espically if your not tryin to be precise.. just let the car run at idle after its warm .. then play with the dizzy and you can hear the idlle go up and down ..as you retard the idle will go down.

the only time ive ever heard of someones motor blowing because of timing is when they were running N2O.
retarding your timing does help with emissions in some cases. mainly for the reason that when you retard your timing, your idle goes lower, thus helping you pass the idle test, as far as load tests, the same principal applies, even though the car will run like crap and probably not start up again if it dies, until you reset the timing.

there happy. but the fact remains that timing happens to be something that should be precise. we're not talking a range of 0-100 its more like 12-18 degrees and one degree can make a huge difference. setting the timing by listening to the idle is still misguided information.
