Hey everyone.

So on my drive to work today I had my heat on full blast and started to roast so I turned it off. Fast forward about 10 mins and I look down and my temp gauge is about 70% the way up. I'm thinking to myself wtf, so I put the heat on full blast and the gauge almost instantly goes back to 1/4, where it normally sits. The other day I noticed it was surging idle at more than normal and sometimes just idling at roughly 2k. I'm sure these things are related. On my way home (about 7 miles) I noticed the heat starting to go back up past 50%, so again I throw the heat on full blast and now it's only pushing out cold air and wasn't helping cool the car off at all.

I checked the coolant level and it seems fine. I'm going to check all the hoses and things for visible leaks. Any suggestions of other things to look into?

 

It appears the radiator has sprung a leak.

 

Could also be a faulty thermostat.

 

With the car off I was pouring coolant into the radiator and watching it come out of the bottom . Not leaking from the hose or the retaining screw. Ended up ordering a Skunk2 Alpha series full size. It's a 26 year old car, I'll probably replace the hoses and thermostat as well.

 

Wow, the radiator really let go on you. Replacing the hoses and thermostat while the rad is out and the coolant is drained is a great idea. Looking forward to following your build! Your EF9 is seriously cool.

I'm ready to bring it back to the states where I can not have to wait 4-6 weeks for parts every time something breaks.
