Want to turbo my stock ls, any suggestions
Looking to turbo my stock ls, but wondering if it would be best to do a master rebuild on the motor. The motor has over 200k on it but still runs smooth.
compression test and leakdown test will review how healthy your engine is. From there you can either buy a low mileage motor or plan the rebuild.
Cool, I've been trying to find a complete gsr head and plan on rebuilding the bottom end. I'm not looking for high boost just a turbo daily driver.
id spend a little bit more and get another ls block. that way you can build the whole engine and then just swap it in so you wont have much down time for the car at all.
if you just want low boost but a fresh motor, id do the following
- stock block - 81.5mm
- b series "vitara"/nippon turbo pistons
-stock rods with the arp rod bolts
-arp headstuds
-stock gsr head
-blox or other itr style intake manifold
that should do it for the motor. pretty budget minded and able to pretty safely take 300-350whp which is plenty of hp to have blast driving. of course you still need a clutch, fuel system, ecu, and turbo kit but for the motor itself that would do it.

@blackeg, thanks for the info, I'll look into the setup and see what I can get going. Do you know of any turbo kits that will keep my ps,ac, and not make me have to relocate my abs or delete it?
Wondering why on your list of needs for the motor, it says 81.50mm instead of 81mm. You saying I should go .5mm over standard size?

depending on the motor you may be able to make the cylinders clean and true at 81.25mm but you would likely have to have a machine shop check it over. most often people just go up to 81.5mm to not have any issues.
Most likely the machine shop will over bore it to 81.5mm to ensure a nice fresh new wall.
