My 91 Accord started making a really loud, high pitch noise a couple weeks ago that hurts your ears when the hood is open. In an attempt to fix this noise I thought I had found a vacuum leak on the egr valve. Since the egr was brand new and had been replaced a bit before I got the car, I decided to just clean it with some parts cleaner, replace the gasket and vacuum line. Now it fires up but almost immediately dies or idles super low at 500rpm and shakes really bad like its choking and will eventually die if I don't give it some gas. I made sure all vacuum lines and connections were secure and correct. I have no idea what's causing this. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem ?

 

For giggles....what happens to the idle if you remove the vac line from the egr?
