Local u pull it had a half price sale today so I picked up a honda radio for my 94 accord. Radio came out of a 96 so Im pretty sure its the same as a 94. Anyway on my 94 someone ( previous owner) installed a after market radio. They cut the plug from the wiring harness and used some of the wires for the after market radio. I cut the wires on the radio I removed today so it should be really simple to wire the plug to the existing wires by color. However seems like I read some where that the radio has a security system and a code is required if power is cut from the radio.If so can I leave the security wires disconnected and bypass it? Also does anyone know which wire they are? I am enclosing a picture of the radio and plug. Thanks

 

You will need to get the security code from the dealer for that radio. They will most likely charge you if they will even give it to you. You may also be able to find someone that works for Honda to give it to you if you're lucky.

 

Darn, that's a bummer. So I guess going back to a factory radio is near impossible. At least I only have $10. in it

 

Question is, why buy stock radio?

 

Honda.com has a code look up or a dealer can get it for you.

 

Thanks rockycat for the info.I finally made it back out to the junk yard and got the vin # of the car I got the radio from. I put in the cars vin # and the radio serial # and it says the serial # does not match the vin for the radio that is in the car.

 

Just call the dealer with the serial number from the radio.......if the first one you call gives you "stuff" just call another.

When I got the 97 I pulled the radio and got the serial number from the top of the unit.....called the dealer, gave them the number, they gave me the code....5 minutes and done.

 

But again, why?

Can/do you even have cassestt or a recorder to put music into the thing...and if so...why

 

Maybe his aftermarket unit was very poorly installed/of quality.

 

I'm pretty sure that 2400 model stock radio in the photo is plug & play. No security code required.

 

I just don't want to go through the hassle of wiring and installing a aftermarket radio. The radio in the car now has been broken for over 2 years so its not like I am used to listening to music in my car. The stock unit well be a plug and play,will look good and fit nice and tight in the dash. I have a alpine with a cd player but just don't want to go through the hassle.

You were right. I plugged it in,turned it on and it played out of the right side for about a minute. Then no sound but it still scanned for stations. Oh well,glad I only had $10. in it.
