transmission install noise
Ok so I installed a transmission on my 93 honda accord and it works great, but it is loud. I can only describe it as some type of fiction noise. Maybe its cause the trans didnt settle on the chassis or transmission fluid is still cycling thru I dont know?
Verify the trans is full of oil, verify the shift linkage is not binding up, and make sure you are not resting your hand on the shifter while driving(not shifting).
its full top portion of the cross marks. and the linkage seems fine how can i tell if its binding up? the noise seems to be coming from the drive plate area
The linkage should move smoothly without binding up.
Did you grease the throwout bearing?
Is the clutch free-play correctly adjusted?
Did you properly torque the pressure plate bolts?
Did you install the clutch facing the correct way?

Okay how can I tell if the bearing is bad? Or can you without taking it apart? are there any other symptoms associated with a bad bearing? I do notice that the sound is a lot louder in P and N than it is in the other gears. It also shifts a bit harder. I hope that helps cause I really dont want to it off again!

I got the tranny from a junk yard, but the car was crashed and well taken care of by the looks of the engine. Dont A/T trannys have torque converters rather than throwback bearings?
Yeah it is definitely grinding on something, the pump housing I assume unless something like a bolt or screw fell in? and I have tried to upload the sound and a 4 second video but it wont uplaod
FWIW, the TC must be installed into the transmission before installation. If the TC is not pressed up against the bellhousing before installing it, the TC can bind up and cause damage. There have been a few posters who have tried to install the TC onto the engine before installing the trans, this is incorrect and will cause damage.
Well I assure you I installed the TC in the bell housing before putting the trans on and I thought I had the TC completely seated before the install. I am almost done taking it back off again. Once I do I can inspect the pump and see if that is the cause of the fiction and go from there

Okay so I have come to a problem rotating the engine by hand to remove the drive plate screws. Maybe a sign of the problem. I did remove the trans engine mount maybe that is why I cant rotate the engine.
So, I dont know how many years of experience you have or all the weird stuff you have seen but after i got off the tranny I found a piece of a drill bit on the engine side of the fly wheel. How it got there I have no idea. Anyways, one last question, after you put the TC in the bell housing and get it fully seated how do you keep it from pushing out or how do you keep it in fully?
On the bottom of the bellhousing there will be a couple of spots where a 10mm headed bolt goes to attach the bottom cover.
Steal one of the camshaft belt cover bolts, and use a small piece of steel and bolt it to the bottom. This keeps the TC from sliding off the snout when installing the transmission.
On 94-97 Accords usually just steal the PS pump adjuster bracket as it is the perfect size, but on 90-93 Accords it uses a different pump/tensioneer setup.

I finally figured out the problem and it was a super easy fix, should have realized it sooner but the dust cover was slightly dent inward. Which was hard to notice due to the stepping architecture of the dust cover. Either way problem solved. Thanks everyone for the help

That same 3 bolt cover got me one time also. Glad you found the issue.
