I had a mechanic put in my quaiffe and I got a ACT clutch with PRolite flywheel in a GSR and its making weird noises while turning slow.

When I go straight it doesnt make noise. When I turn going slow especially going uphill it makes a clanking type of noise. It sounds like an ''owl'' to when I decelerate sometimes. Anyone ever have problems? Maybe I need to have it broken in? I already drove it for 30 miles.

 

hmm. I thought I read that it was normal (a diff. noise with a quaife) - but I am not sure.

Ask to see if he put the proper shims in. If not it could possibly make noise. Also, did he re-use the old bearings or install new ones.

 

sorry to ask the obvious, but are you sure you put tranny fluid in it??

 

Ya, and I got new bearings to and he put it in. He said the tolerances were fine.

It makes a ''reverse'' whining noise when I decelerate sometimes.

 

When I had my quaife installed I didn't notice any noises at all, even when turning. I was expecting to hear soemthing, but it was actually really quiet. Maybe I just can't hear so well.

 

do you have an exhaust?

my car is completly stock besides that.

 

I have full 3 inch exhaust, but it's pretty quiet. I also have an ACT xtss clutch and the stock flywheel.

 

Car doesnt make the noises as much. Now it does it if Im going up a hhill and riding clutch going likr .00000000001 mph it makes a clank type noise.
It makes a ''whirring'' noise though if I downshift from 3rd to 2nd, I guesss it puts pressure on the diff. Alot of people are saying the noises are normal but then others saying it isnt.

I know the clutch types are louder supposedly. I think weight might effect noise to Im going to figure that out.

 

hey i am not a pro, but wanted to let u know from my experience..this only happens when you deccelerate right? it happens at both low and high speeds?....a friend of mine had a similar problem. i told him to take it easy when driving and complete the break in period , since he did install an LSD and a new clutch (dont know which brands)...and when he changed the LSD oil the sound disapeared 80% of it....remember you are trying to break in the clutch, flywheel and LSD at the same time, so keep patient!!!

Does your friend have a clutch lsd or gear one like a quaife which I have.

The sound is getting alot better but I guess the differential needs a break in to for a gear type lsd to. I push it hard around corners in high gears lol. Under normal driving its mint just maybe a hum and the whirring noise when letting off the gas going kind of fast in 2nd or downshifting to 3rd to 2nd doing like 25mph.

 

lol i never asked him if it was a clutch or a gear type, but i do know it is a 1.5 way type....dont worry in the begining it was totally annoying, but it will go ....just remember to change the LSD oil after the break in and just in case make sure u check other things like:

axles
axles boot (they make sounds when they leak)
...etc

check for leaks before you go to work...its much easier to know that everyting is in mint condition
