If you have the stock sohc, there isn't anything available for you, there is no option to chip a obdII ecu. The only option would be to purchase/make a conversion harness for obdI and get either a obdI ecu or a chipped obdI ecu.

Jus plug a p72 96-98 gsr ecu in it. I did. Worked like a charm.

I would suggest the 99-00 SI one before I suggested the gsr ecu to be honest. It will work without the ecu giving a check engine light, I have a friend who has been using one for nearly a year if not longer.

So all you did was a simple plug and play. Those ECUs will work with no problem at all? They just plug right up?

OBD2b-

NOTICE the difference in plugs. They are NOT interchangeable.
I didn't think it was that easy. Thanx B18C-EJ1 for the info. Since you are on the right track, is it true that the gsr ecu will look for a knock sensor and when it sees there isn't one it will throw a CEL.

No, your friend did not. A 99-00 SI ecu will NOT plug directly into a 96-98 Civic. PERIOD.

No, there are split years on OBD2 and OBD2b. The guy above is not telling the whole story.

and bring it to my attention so that I may have the opportunity to be confronted instead of someone else showing it to me.

Don't be a jackass just because you got called out, and maybe I need to remind you of what YOU said..........
HIDizzle Said-
Then, you said....
Well, that sounds to me like a 99-00 SI ecu would fit in the same spot as the above mentioned 96-98 GSR would, and the fact remains, that it will NOT.
Whether or not you meant to "IMPLY" or not "IMPLY" what it would or would NOT do, the fact remains that we all took it that way.
Then you come in here saying this-
Thanks....
So you did, but you made it sound as if it were plug and play from the post above it. Not to mention that this guy was asking about the 96-98 civic, and had you been paying attention, you would have realized this and maybe not had posted what you did....
NO, that is NOT my responsibility, check you own posts more often then.

Wow, you have perfect reading skills man.
I stated it would not give a check engine light, never did I have the opportunity to state whether it was plug and play.
Next time you respond telling me I am not stating the whole story IM me
and bring it to my attention so that I may have the opportunity to be confronted instead of someone else showing it to me.

Obviously not, if one person asked whether it was plug and play, while others stated otherwise.
