Online what is the cheapest place to order a distributor for a 92-95 civic 1.6l Vtec? One that is closest to oe as possible.
I was looking at one on buy auto parts. They sell quality merchandise?

 

From what I've read it's pretty important to have an OEM distributor. Especially if you plan on keeping the car for an extended period of time. It's not worth it to shell some money out on something you'll most likely ending up on replacing because it ***** the bed. I recently went to the junkyard and pulled an oem distributor from car and paid $40 for it. I think I've read OEM distributors have a lifespan of about 150k miles and if properly cared for could last even longer than that. Anything in regards to the ignition system of your vehicle it's pretty important to use quality parts. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I don't have anything to drive, and I'm kind of limited on cash atm. Need my DD back up.

So would a dizzy from Tiger the Japanese auto website also be a no go? Trying to find something closest to $100-$130 right now.

 

car-part.com will have used oem for 50-80 shipped

I'd go to the junk yard and grab one from a D16Z6 and run with that. Look for a car with side or rear damage and you should be confident it works.

Much cheaper short term fix and get good quality. If it doesn't work you bounce back and grab another for no charge.

 

I just broke down and got one from AutoZone.

I put it on.
My car will crank but it wont start.
I used WD-40 to keep the pistons lubricated while I had the head off.
Could that completely foul out my spark plugs?
My car won't start at all, like it's an ignition problem. Any causes for that?

 

many causes. did you properly test for spark?

 

Have spark?
Have fuel?
Cam timing correct?
Compression test?

 

The new dizzy isn't getting any spark as it seems.
Couple days ago I had the car running. It shut off mid rev and hasn't started since.
I'm on the verge of getting new plugs and wires.

 

that would be a big 'ol waste of money. google "civic fsm". download it, go thru the steps for a no start condition.

 

Well I've figured out that when I turn my key on I used to hear the fuel pump come on and everything, well now I don't hear that.
Could that be a main relay issue? If so where is it located/what does it look like.

This all started when I started the new engine for the first time. It had the surging idle. I kept it at a steady 2k rpm so it would warm up (plenty of fluids in it, and new cleaned iacv). All of a sudden it just died.

 

yes, it could be a main relay issue. google image it, it is in the drivers footwell near the fusebox

open it up and look for cracked solder joints, burn marks, etc. they can be fixed sometimes. seriously, download a copy of the fsm

 

Or better yet, support Helm Inc and go buy one for cheap. They supply all the factory service manuals, electrical troubleshooting manuals and body work manuals for our cars and a bunch of others. And not that expensive for the best manuals out there.

The same manuals factory techs use.

 

It was the main relay. I've gotten that problem fixed.
