VTEC-E to VTEC?
Hey guys,
So I have the F22B1 engine in my Accord, and I have learned that this is an VTEC-E engine. I would like to convert it to simple VTEC and basically say **** the extra gas mileage. Is this just something that I tune out, or do I have to do any rebuilding in the engine itself??

Honda may not have marketed it as "VTEC-E" like they did for the Civic VX & HX but the function is virtually the same. One intake valve used at low RPM both valves open the same in "VTEC" mode at higher RPM.
to me it sounds like what you would be happy with is a "G22" hybrid build or a twin cam cylinder head swap from an H22. This will give you real DOHC VTEC... and better ports, better intake manifold... do some looking around here in the forums, especially the Hybrid forum and both Accord and Prelude forums. there are several guys who have done this conversion.

You need to instal a custom camshaft and a have it tuned. As those are the two things that makes it an economy VTEC. The F22B1 and F23A* have two different sized primary cam lobes. This makes it so that one of the two intake valves only opens slightly when out of VTEC.
I wouldn't waste your time with any sort of hybrid build. What people like to call G builds. You would be better off doing a complete H22/F20 swap if you want 40hp of real VTEC.....lol

Yeah, im not looking for too much of a gain. I would be happy to boost my numbers from 145 to 165-170. Any more is just a bonus! Which option is more cost effective? VTEC conversion and tune, or a G22 hybrid build?
You can't convert to VTEC, you engine is already VTEC. The CAM itself is a more "relaxed" cam aimed towards fuel economy (as with the tune). To get "my vtak kicked in yo!" VTEC you will need a more aggressive regrind cam and a tune. If its an automatic, forget about it.
