Does anyone haooen to know what the vtec engagement point (if there is one) is on the VX? I know it's the VTEC-E, but i have no idea how this differs from the regular VTEC. Any info would be much appriciated... thx

If your talking about the crossover its a 3500 RPM... and the E in VTEC-E pretty much means it'll get good gas milage...

before the vtec x-over, the motor operates on only 8 valves. After the x-over, all 16 are used. This is basically how the vtec-e works.

Stock VX VTEC-E engagement is 2500
And it operates on 12 Valves pre-VTEC.
The 4th Valve is used for swirling...
VTEC activation point can be altered some by load.
VTEC-E is half the system used in newer 3-Stage VTEC.

wow... that helps a TON... I'm currently getting a bit of hesitation at different points in the rpm range... mosty below 3k though. could this be a cause of the vtec-e?? To be honest, I had no idea that my car has vtec until reading this forum (thanks, btw) so when i did my tune-up, i told the parts guy it didn't have vtec. Would different plug wires (and possibly plugs) make it seem like my car was choking? That may sound like a basic question, I think what I'm really asking is, are there differences in the plugs and wires used in the 1.5L non-vtecs vs. mine?? The reason i ask is because, prior to my tune-up (i've had the car only for a few months, so it's only had one, and that was a few days after the purchase of the car) it was hesitating still, but i replaced the wires with identical ones, though they may have been wrong too... sorry about the "noob-ishness" of the questions... this just opens up a whole new can of worms for me!

That's actually kinda refreshing.. i was thinking it may be a clogged cat too, so i'm gonna replace the exhaust manifold with an EX one and get and EX cat and a custon pipe back to my 5zigen axel back... maybe this will help...

I ALSO found my replacement.... B18C1. Only thing to keep on the VX motor is the 5 wire O2 sensor... for use in a wideband O2 set-up.

During a car magazine (don't remember which one) test (back in 92) they noted that the VX "stumbled" alot during part throttle acceleration, noting that it was probably the transition in and out of the "lean-burn" operation mode.
