hello
i have JDM EK4 Civic SiR
it was with an auto transmission
a week ago i converted this car to manual
everything is working fine but this gearbox have some problems
sometimes i cant select second gear
when i shift to second (no matter from first or from third) it seems now gear is selected but when i release clutch, car is not in second gear. its in neutral but shifter is in second gear`s position. all other gears are selected normally. at any revs. also when shifting to second gear rapidly in high revs it produces grinding or scratching sounds like broken synchros


can anyone tell my reason for that treatment?
what parts in gearbox should be replaced to fix that issue?

i am going to replace all synchros anyway but i think this is different problem

 

Did you open the new trans and see if it was any good? Might just be a crap trans with a busted 2nd. Or a shift fork maybe??? I got a buddy with a cobalt and his stick will do a complete circle. Lol. No shift point stops.

 

i thought gearbox was in good condition so i didn't open in before mounting.
shift fork is same for 1-2 gears. 1st gear doesn't have any problems

 

Id take it in and see what dude is gonna do for you. If its crap, either buy a new one(used good one) or get that one rebuilt.

 

i'll do it in next weekend.here in my country there is no such part store where i can find b series transmission parts and that's big problem for my, because i must order parts in USA or UK and wait for it minimum two weeks

 

That sucks.

 

before you do anything with the transaxle get under the car, have someone go through all the gears while you check for slop in your shifter and linkage.

 

i installed linkage with new bushings

 

i disasambled transmission and got surprise!



shift rod is welded and not selects second gear properly


also stopper ring was installed not properly and was deformed


because of stopper ring 5 gear needle bearing was deformed too


second gear sleeve is not fixing at gear, ring is missing from synchro too

i will order second gear sleeve and synchro set at synchrotech but where can i buy all other parts? have anyone used gearbox for parts?

 

ouch, looks like someone did a crappy job at 'rebuilding' on that thing

 

Synchrotech can get you the other parts you need as well. That shift change assembly is a pricey little bugger.

 

on synchrotech online store there is neither stopper ring nor needle bearing

synchro ring set
