Default d16y8 won't rev past 5500 rpm

Hello everyone.

I recently purchased a base map from a respected tuner from Florida. after i plugged it in into my p28 ecu i noticed that the car will not rev past 5500 or so rpm. talked to the tuner he said he examined the map and found no issues with it. he said probably what was happening was that my ecu not seeing the speed signal and cut the spark engaging anti lag. though my speedometer is working. when i plugged in my old base map chip with out anti lag, but with 2 step, everything went back to normal.

let me know what you guys think is the issue

lol 322 views and no replies.

Antilag and 2step are the same thing, they engage with the same conditions. If you have a standstill rev limiter on both chips and only one is malfunctioning, I doubt it's your car causing the malfunction unless you're not giving us some piece of necessary information... like a CEL.

Your respected tuner may not have disabled VTP or IAB in his rom, or the 2step has a throttle condition and your TPS is malfunctioning.

It's hard to tell without looking at the maps. Have him burn you another chip just in case his is defective so you can rule that out, or have him post his rom so I can review it.

i thought 2 step was going of clutch position sensor and antilag of speed sensor

2 Step is basically just a rev limiter set before you hit a certain speed. I have mine set at 3,600 RPM and 6 MPH. So it will limit my RPM to 3,600 before I go 6 MPH according to the VSS.

I have never heard of antilag. Is that to spool up a turbo? I forget how that one works exactly. It retards ignition to force the turbo to create boost but not RPM or something. I don't remember.

yes that is correct. anti-lag is also a rev limit of sorts but doesn't completely cut fuel or ignition; it merely retards the ignition to spool the snot out of the turbo while maintaining a specific rpm, so you're already at peak boost when you actually launch out the hole

Nailed it! Proud of myself. I need to learn how to program anti-lag. I have heard mixed things about it though. I wouldn't use it for prolonged periods of time. I.E. sitting on the gas at a light with your turbo spooling.

Anti-Lag increases EGT temperatures to ****, I wouldn't really use it or mess with it unless you're more experienced.

I like how easy it is to program 2step in crome, if your using crome i think you have to add rev tools first to access that feature.

Pro roms don't have antilag, Zach.
You can retard and enrich columns of boost lower than your target to spool it up quicker, but the throttle response will be soggy for normal driving.
There's details on how to tune antilag if you read the manual in my signature, but it does need to be tuned sparingly as motox has warned excessive EGT will start breaking metal.
