Default Help Choosing Amp

I have a 90' Honda CRX. I think that what I'll do is put 3 12" Sony Xplod's in there. The ones with the aluminum cone. I got my cd player picked out too. But the one thing I don't know much about is amps. How do I find the right one for this setup? Can someone suggest any to me? I also replace all my speakers in my doors and everything. How many watts should i run? The rms on one of the subs is 400 and peak is 1200. I need help!
Thank You

you will not be happy with sony.

too much money, for too little response, power, and quality.

Sony is a highly consumerized brand (what isn't these days) and they are relying on their name more than anything when pushing their amps.

try some other brands, for the same price you would be getting a lot more power plus if you care, a brand name that says something in car audio.

sony
u do you want 3 subs anyway it is going to be hard to find subs that will fit your requrements ie. three 6ohm subs will run a 4.5 ohm load if you run them in a parallel series but you should try to have a 4 ohm load.
it would be adviseable to either run two subs or four subs. two rockford he2 dvcs would sound great and handle 800w rms.

I have been told to go with 12" Kicker comp VR's. I want 3. Should I get 2ohm or 4ohm subs. I dunno what the difference is. Also what amp should i got with. They have a 400wrms. I don't wanna spend a whole lot of money on an amp.

Kicker Comp VR's are probably the best lower modeled subs.. the audio shop here will sell 10's for 85 each and 12's for 120 each.. small towns are nice but they sound excellent.. if you dont go with them ... Image Dynamics i like, Eclipse are nice, JL of course, Memphis.. i dont like RF at all, there subs i have had nothing but problems and there mids suck IMO.. there amps arent the best, but the best for the buck.

For subs, I would go with the Kicker 12L7s in a ported box. Even one square 12 in a ported box would blow away the cheaper Comp VRs. The kicker amps are good also. They have a 1200 watt sub amp that works great. Just a thought.

He was picking out Xplod's. I dont think he has the budget to afford 350 for 1 L7 and then 1100 for either the ZR1000 or 1000 the XS100 (i think that's it).. I was being real with him, your just trying to make my post look stupid.

No man, I can get those subs for $200 a piece, and that 1200 watt amp for $450-500. I have this stuff, I know what I am talking about. One 12L7 in a ported box will be louder and better quality then two or three of those Sony's, etc.

I know, but when someone is looking at Xplod, there price range doing goto L7's. I can get kicker/jl/alpine below MSRP b/c a friend of mine owns the shop here. I have a L5 12 with a ZR360 on it. I know how good the stuff sounds. a friend has a l7 12 and a bd1000, loud as hell.. i was just saying, your saying spending money. You can get them for that price, but not to many ppl have hook ups. I was saying for the price of Xplod, the Comp VR's will be a better buy. If he wants SQ, i say go for some Image Dynamic ID 12's and a Zapco 600 and some ID Cameleon comp sets and a Zapco 4 channel. There we are over the 1500 mark. See, i was just trying to help him get something sounding better then Xplod (literally, they do ) For not a lot of cash.. He could post his budget tho .

Sry, i didn't see this post man... Hmmm, i would get them in 4 ohm and get a JL 500.1 amp to power them. This should cost you.. 450 for the subs (unless there not 150 anymore ) and then $522 (from car-toys) for the amp. Under 1k, but if you can't get the 500.1 amp.. i suggest a RF 450S (as much as i hate RF) there the best amp for the buck. It will cost 350 from crutchfield.com ... What do you have for deck wise and mid/highs?

p.s. say the hell with it and just get 1 L7 15 for 450 and enjoy

Hey let me know what you want, I can get pretty much anything for a good deal; a lot better than the prices I have been reading in this post. I would even sell my system, possibly. I am looking to go turbo. Let me know. It depends on what amp you get, as to what ohm subs you will want.

I would second that one! I have a single 12" RFD2212, powered by one RFBD1000.1 . . . A W S O M E
Also JL, Kicker, Eclipse, Orion, Alpine are all top quality subs!

Grab an Earthquake PH-D2 to power 3 12's. Rated 2000x1 (measured 1820x1 @ 14.4v) @ 2 ohms, 75% power efficient, and the street price is around $550-600.

As for cheap subs, you should shortly find people blowing out IDQ12 v2s to make room for the new v3s. But with nicer subs, you're gonna want a nicer amp... I'd say hit a US Amps USA-1000X. Excellent SQ at a low price ($550 street).
