Default My subs suck

Hey guys I just recently bought two 12" Legacy subs of a guy I know and they suck. I have a 92 Accord and was wondering if any of you out there have any suggestions on some good subs for this type of car. I want something powerful enough but most of all I want good quality subs. Price range around $300. Thanks

Sorry I'm a Fosgate person! I used to have two Audiobahn 12's AW1200 on a 1990 Accord and the beat.

Do you mean 300 a speaker? or total? Your not going to get new jl w3's for 300 bucks a pair. I say Kicker Comp VR 12's.. I haven't ever had Alpine subs, but i have heard em, SQ would be my reason for em, i haven't ever heard them actually pound.

Before anyone suggested subs, these question should have been asked and answered:

What amp?
What box?
What's in the rest of the system?

at 300 a pair, you're not going to get very good subs. Stick to one jl w3 or w6 and you'll be happier.

I can got 3 W6's at $150 Each....The new W6 v2's might be a bit more pricey. You could also get a pair of Kicker Solobarics, but then you would have to modify your box or get a new one..You also need a good amp for these subs, if you don't have a powerful enough amp don't even bother getting good subs yet.

The Comp VR sound better then ppl think, even tho there 2nd to bottom for Kicker, there still *** kicking subs.. I can get them here for about 120 each.. They retail for 150 each.. Yea, JL makes good stuff, but JL W3's are around 150-200 a speaker and w6's i KNOW are like 250 or so.. i wanted some, said the hell with it and got 1 L7 10.. Yea, what amp are you running, what kind of mid-rang/hi's and deck?

p.s. if you go Comp VR route.. you only need like a zr360 or so and they will be rockn.. i have seen an impulse i25x2 push 1 Comp VR 12 perfectly.. wasn't glass shattering, but dang good SQ b/c there amps sound clean.

Thanks for all the advice guys...but I pretty sure I have a crappy amp too! It's a Mobile Authority 1channel 1000w. I know you guys must be thinking I have some crappy sq in my car but I got a deal on the subs and the amp, but now I realize they both suck...well actually I'm not sure what quality the amp is it's the series a1101 model does anyone know if this amp is good enough for jl w3's or do I have to upgrade my amp as well. Thanks

I have the bottom of the line Kicker Comps and they do the job for me. I'm not winning any car stereo contests or trying to blow out my ear drums, just some good tight 10 inch clear bass.

to be honest with you go with an alumapro sub or subs
I've blown a w6, blown a macdaddy, and a kicker solobaric (old school one not the latest) the alumapro takes a beating and I havent blown it yet (5 months straight)
the subs mentioned above are good, I'm just giving you my 2 cents

i would definitely go with the JL's. they don't need lots of power and they slam hard without sacrificing sq. that 1000 watt amp might be a little too much for 2 w3's. you can get 2 w3's at http://www.onlinecarstereo.com for about 170 a piece i think. the other subs mentioned are good subs but i think for the price and quality, JL can not be beat. and you might ask how hard do they slam? i hit 149.1 db legal with only a RF power 360 in a sealed box. now that's slammin for two 10's with that little of wattage.

2 JL 12W3 v2 for $149 a piece at www.cbrstereo.com. They have pretty good feedback and they have a warranty (not manufacturers).

You never said why the suck...could it be because the enclosure was not the best type for the speakers or vehicle type..or was it because your expectations. I shake my head when peeps just throw out get JL/Kicker/Vega/MTX/Eclipse/DD/ID/Boston..etc subs and dont get a little more background. I say this because I personally have installed ( for well over 10 years)
systems for guys on a budget and have them drive away with big after optimizing what they have. I would suggest having a specialist evaluate your system.

I got a 1990 Accord and i have this setup in it, the subs are turned toward the back. I only had them faced foward so you could see the amp and the subs in one pic. The amp is a Rockford Fosgate Punch 500a2. This setup hits HARD AS HELL and has great sound quality for the $300 i paid. $300 for the subs and the enclosure just so you know. Its JL Audio PowerWedge CS310R-W0.
